Even ‘pro-gun’ representatives ignoring and ducking ‘Project Gunwalker’
Gun Rights Examiner ^ | 27 February, 2011 | David Codrea

Posted on 03/01/2011 4:00:36 AM PST by marktwain

“Gun rights advocates following the “Project Gunwalker” story* have received replies from their United States Senators, Richard Lugar (R- Ind) and Joseph Lieberman (I-Conn), who say they are aware of allegations about gun monitoring operations by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) gone awry, and claim they are conducting staff investigations of the accusations,” the Gun Rights Examiner column reported on Feb. 21.

This development reflected the type of grassroots activism needed to keep the momentum on this story going forward by putting representatives on notice and publicizing their responses. And while some were quick to observe Senators Lugar and Lieberman haven’t exactly been friends to gun owners over the years, their willingness to address the issue and to promise follow-up is more than most politicians have been inclined to volunteer, including political allies.

Allies like Gus Bilirakis (R-FL), rated “A” by NRA and also by Gun Owners of America.

From a long-time reader and correspondent who is represented by Congressman Bilirakis:

After repeated e-mails to his office with both your commentary on Project Gunwalker and John Longenecker’s commentary, I finally got a response. How overwhelmingly generic!

Read the official response letter by clicking on the photo accompanying this column.

It’s probably fair to say the initial inquiries were never passed on to the congressman, and some low-level staffer, oblivious to the important implications of this story, just picked the closest boilerplate reply they could find on the pat ‘em on the head and send ‘em on their way response menu.

have you noticed though that they aren’t talking about U.S. Guns ending up in Mexico anymore? strange huh? It’s almost as if they really don’t want to bring that subject up for some reason.

ATF's first attempt to get "ahead" of the story was to make arrests a couple days after BPA Terry was killed. That story quickly unravelled as info on the Terry shooting slowly leaked out.

The scary part is how slow the information is coming out and how bad the news is. The only good thing is that the story is finally gaining traction, with CBS doing a story on it.

BP agents are the proverbial dutch boy with their fingers in the dike. They have enough problems with a government that doesn't want to enforce the law. They don't need another agency arming the criminals they come up against.

Someone post a wikipedia article.

Seriously, that’s where our “journalists” and representatives turn first.

Do people really think CONgress is eager to expose another falseflag pysop carried out by our imperious Federal Government? Get real. The only thing they are going to do is what they always do and that is go into whitewash cover-up mode.

This is the kind of scandal that could destroy an administration. BATFE agents tricking lawful gun dealers into selling arms to questionable purchasers and then letting those guns “walk” across the border so they could later “find them” and use them as evidence to back up the president’s claims that US arms were fueling violence in Mexico. This is much larger than the Iran/Contra scandal IMO. I am sure the administration realizes this and is carefully covering its tracks right now. This behavior is just beyond the pale and it really puts a spot light on what this administration’s real priorities are. The question is, why is this administration so determined to disarm American citizens? Regardless, he must be stopped.

The gun dealers weren't tricked, they were used as confidential informants. The kicker is that this critical point was not part of the original ATF story. When they first made arrests the ATF presser made it sound like the dealers were part of the supposed crime.

It was in ATF's warped interests to show a large gun trafficking issue on the south border. The real question should be how high does this lie go? Did the orders to conduct this operation go to the top of ATF, to DOJ, to the White House? It is telling that all discussion of the southbound gun problem has completely stopped. Obama was supposed to do a gun related oval office address soon after the state of the union. What happened to all of that? What did the President know and when did he know it?

A federal agent is dead and there are still 2500 guns out there that ATF knowingly put in the hands of the bad guys.

“We didn’t shoot (the Branch Davidians) with fixed guns (from a helicopter).

No, they just shot them off-handedly.

I think it’s important that we understand here that the gun dealers were, in fact, tricked into playing the ATF’s game. Would they have played along had they known what kind of game the ATF was actually playing? Hell no. The ATF conspired to drag law abiding American citizens into illegal activities in order to undermine their own credibility as law abiding citizens. What’s worse, it seems quite possible that their was collusion with a foreign power here i.e. Presidente Calderon to undermine the civil liberties of American citizens. This is bigger than Iran/Contra; this is bigger than Watergate and if the trail leads back to Obama, it’s impeachment time. There is no doubt in my mind that the trail does in fact lead straight back to Obama but he has had ample time to cover his tracks and to select the pawns that will take the fall for him. Either way, this is most alarming. Heads better roll.

Question: How is this not entrapment?

The gun dealers didn't break any laws. They did what they were supposed to do. The dealers informed the ATF that there were suspicious buyers and the ATF told them to go ahead and make the transactions. The ATF wasn't even trying to arrest the gun dealers, that was never their intent. Their intent was to fabricate evidence to support the administration's anti-second amendment agenda.

Imagine if you are one of these gun dealers. Don't you think there is an element of coercion when the agency that regulates your business says they want you to do something? If I was a dealer I would be afraid that if I said no the ATF would show up all the time to look at my books.

Arguably they knew, or suspected, the sales were not on the up-and-up as they called ATF several times to report the attempted sales if what I read the other day was accurate. {That they had to be talked into making the sales by the ATF.}
