Consumer Reports: GM's Volt 'doesn't really make a lot of sense'
Obama “striles” again!
Shocking!
Still no report of the electric “mileage” it will get with the lights on, in winter, running the defroster fan, (seat-only ?) heater, and the engine.
And don’t try to use the radio either.
Almost 50 grand. Yeah, they’ll sell a lot of those.
This may be true but I do believe that batteries are the future for the auto industry or at least gas + battery like the Prius. At some point batteries will be able to charge completely in minutes and the charge capacity will also dramatically increase due to nano tech of new alloys.
GM spokesman Greg Martin noted that it's been an extremely harsh winter and as a Volt driver he said he's getting 29-33 miles on electric range. But he noted that in more moderate recent weather, the range jumped to 40 miles on electric range or higher.
This little bit of the article sums up what a POS this car is and the fact that GM knows it. What a bunch of marketing spin. How do you know what the weather conditions are going to be? Are you only to use it as a summer cruiser like a vintage Camaro to enjoy full economy?
This thing is going to be the next Yugo. There is a reason GM didn't introduce this car before the Gov't forced them to.
Don’t we have to buy Volts to stop the rise of the oceans, and allow the planet to heal and all that?
How will we taxpayers truly recoup our compelled investment in GM if we don’t buy Volts????
2011 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid $25,795 MSRP, 40mpg, 206hp, seats 5.

The magazine said in its testing in Connecticut during a harsh winter, its Volt is getting 25 to 27 miles on electric power alone.

Next up: State and Local Governments required to buy Volts to qualify for other Federal benefits.
And how much will those batteries cost, and how much will they screw up the ecology when they are dead?
Duh.
Gene Weingarten of Wa Po was able to test the Volt for a few days - but admitted that there were drawbacks. Such as severe weather [battery mileage-wise], lack of charging stations [especially in the city if you live in an apartment and have no parking garage], etc.
For $50K, GM should have put a Cadillac badge on it to trick more people into buying them.
Another one is the Leaf. The only reason I would buy either of those is for their resale value 50 years from now when I own one of the one or two in existence. For anything else they are utterly useless.
When gov’t picks the winners the people are losers.
Neither does any other "GREEN" crap.
