Wisconsin Democrats: Union Yes!
NRO ^ | 2/24/11 | KATRINA TRINKO

For Wisconsin’s Democratic state senators, it’s simply bad business to offend labor unions.

Thirteen of the fourteen have received generous contributions from unions over the years; their cumulative donations range from $5,750 to $113,603. And anything less than, well, fleeing the state in order to prevent Gov. Scott Walker’s public-union-busting bill from passing could threaten those vital cash flows.

“Judging from the reaction, the emotion you see on the capitol square, [Walker’s legislation] is obviously something labor unions care deeply about,” says Brett Healy, president of the MacIver Institute, a Wisconsin-based free-market think tank. “I suspect when they’re communicating with these individual senators, they’re making it quite clear what they would like to see happen and what they would like to not see happen.”

If the unions are communicating, the senators are likely listening attentively: Those union donations constitute a significant chunk of their campaign funds, according to the data compiled by Wisconsin Democracy Campaign..

The absent Democratic senators are preventing Wisconsin from launching initiatives that will help close a budget shortfall. But they are ensuring that their own campaign coffers will be well stocked during the next election.

I don’t often reference him, but Limbaugh lined this out nicely last Thursday and Friday.

It’s a big honkin’ money laundering scheme.

Unions pay dues, dues go to rats, rats keep the Unions employed and well paid, Unions pay more dues...

Every single state legislature should be writing a rule about members who “flee” to avoid a vote. Something like, if you’re gone more than X consecutive days, you are automatically counted as a Yea vote. Something, anything, to prevent this kind of chicanery from happening anywhere else again.

"Those union donations constitute a significant chunk of their campaign funds,"

Says it all. Taxpayer funds going to socialist candidates. I know here in Tennessee it is coming to an abrupt halt. We are RTW so the screaming and yelling will be just a few socialists.

Every single state legislature should be writing a rule about members who “flee” to avoid a vote.

They all have some sort of self governing committee such as an ethics committee to police their members.

I would think that publicly announcing that you are leaving the state to avoid a quorum and to derail the legislature because you do not agree would be a grounds for disciplinary action.

legislatures are designed to be self governing. If they don't have the guts to discipline their members they need new leadership.

Yep, just as the union thug leaders will negotiate members demands to ensure members dues keep being deducted from payroll checks. The thugs need those dues to live high as well as keep Rat politicians elected.

Unions pay dues, dues go to rats, rats keep the Unions employed and well paid, Unions pay more dues...

In biology it's called a "symbiotic relationship." Like sharks and remora suckerfish (but it's hard to tell which would be the politician and which the union thug).

Wow—thanks for ‘digging’ up the list on contributions. Then again the leftist Rats never let factual truth get in their way of grandstanding.

Job protecting Teachers Union protesters are invoking "teabaggers." The unions should henceforth be known as: "RUBBER ROOMERS"
