Labor secretary: GOP governors asking workers to give up their rights By Michael O'Brien - 02/26/11 10:36 AM ET
Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (R) is trying to force workers in his state to give up their rights, Labor Secretary Hilda Solis said Saturday.
Solis, speaking at the Democratic National Committee's (DNC) Winter Meeting, accosted Walker and Ohio Gov. John Kasich (R) for their efforts to reform collective bargaining rights for public workers in their states.
"We know that many states are facing tough budget decisions. We know there's room for shared sacrifice," Solis said. "But the governors in Wisconsin and Ohio aren't just asking workers to tighten their belts, they're asking them to give up their uniquely American rights as workers."
Members of the Obama administration have been careful about weighing in on the labor dispute in Wisconsin, which entered its 12th day on Saturday. President Obama has called Walker's proposals an "assault on unions," but has said little else about it.
As Labor secretary, Solis is somewhat of a point person for the administration on the issue. She met on Thursday with Vice President Biden and AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka, along with the presidents of AFL-CIO organizations. Her remarks on the dispute before a DNC meeting also reflect the close political relationship between the official Democratic Party and organized labor.
"All they're really asking for is the opportunity to sit down at the table, like grown-ups, and to work together to solve problems," she said of protesters in Madison. "And that's what collective bargaining is all about."
Collective Bargaining is not a RIGHT!
Not a member of the GOP last I checked.
In the end, this corruption must be stopped now, and Americans are FINALLY starting to realize what this Progressive/Socialist scheme is all about.....Power gained through taxpayer forced funding of Politicians' campaigns.
Maybe the funneling of the TARP and Porkulus funds to Unions should be trumpeted more vociferously at this time, and let's get the WHOLE story out.
If you wanna run for political office in the future, you should be forced to fund your OWN campaign, or have a pool of funds made EQUALLY AVAILABLE TO ALL CANDIDATES who gain a certain percentage of the vote in an OPEN PRIMARY for all Parties at one time?

Solis is dead wrong. What is really being asked, demanded, is for the rights of the average American taxpayer to be restored.
Our right to our paychecks.
Our right to care for our families.
Our right to not be subjected to oppressive union demands.
Our right to representation in public negotiations.
Our right to a level playing field in government.
The list goes on and on, but it is our rights at stake here, not the greedy unions and Democrat Party.
Boy, are socialists dumb or what?
“Uniquely American rights as workers?”
No, they're looking to Mau-Mau the folks on the other side of the table, with threats of just what they're doing right now, on the streets of Madison. They're certainly NOT acting like 'grown ups' right now.
Workers may have the right to demand good working conditions, and a decent wage, but they do NOT have the right to demand unlimited access to the public treasury, which is what they really want.
In fact, if I'm not mistaken, the Gov. HAS allowed for collective bargaining when it comes to WAGES, but NOT when it comes to other benefits, like health insurance or pensions.
Solis, a liar and hypocrite. Federal employees do not have the same collective bargaining rights as the Wisconsin state employees. If they are truly “rights”, why is she not leading the fight to have these same rights for Federal employees?

Further, a large number of Federal employees are part of the Excepted Service. They have even less “rights” than Civil Service employees.

Nobody ever had the right to extort an entire State’s tax paying population for endless amounts of money.
Unions are extortion at their root, corruption in their nature.
The Secretary of Labor of the United States of America is siding with 11% of the Workforce while ignoring the 89% of the Workforce who support the minority through Involuntary Servitude.
Got it...
Don’t give her any ideas. /s
LIE ALERT. Totally false.
“All they’re really asking for is the opportunity to sit down at the table, like grown-ups”
So why are they hiding out like children in an Illinois motel?
Two mistakes: they aren’t rights and he’s not asking.
How about this for ESCALATION: Congress defund the “Department of Labor”!!
Obviously the secy of labor is a bloomin’ idiot. I do hope she educates her self. What a putz. De-fund specifically her pay check. By getting paid for her stupidity she is stealing from us.
