In an exclusive interview with Newsmax.TV Friday, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich said President Barack Obamas decision not to fully enforce the Defense of Marriage law eventually could lead to a constitutional crisis, as he has directly violated his constitutional duties by arbitrarily suspending a law. Gingrich even suggested that, if a President Sarah Palin had taken a similar action, there would have been immediate calls for her impeachment. Clearly its a violation of his constitutional oath. Clearly it is not something that can be allowed to stand." Obama Attorney General Eric Holder said on Wednesday that the administration will not defend the constitutionality of the Defense of Marriage Act.. Gingrich slammed Obama for his decision, telling Newsmax that he is not a one-person Supreme Court and his decision sets a very dangerous precedent that must not be allowed to stand. Story continues below video. Imagine that Governor Palin had become president. Imagine that she had announced that Roe versus Wade in her view was unconstitutional and therefore the United States government would no longer protect anyones right to have an abortion because she personally had decided it should be changed. The news media would have gone crazy. The New York Times would have demanded her impeachment. First of all, he campaigned in favor of [the law]. He is breaking his word to the American people, Gingrich says. Second, he swore an oath on the Bible to become president that he would uphold the Constitution and enforce the laws of the United States. He is not a one-person Supreme Court. The idea that we now have the rule of Obama instead of the rule of law should frighten everybody.

If the pansy Republicans had a spine, there would also be similar calls... to date, outside of a few whines suggesting that they wouldnt conduct themselves in the same manner, I have heard nothing from the House majority.

Totally agree. Personally, I think there is so much outright lawbreaking and arrogance shown by this administration, they don’t know where to start. I also think they are afraid of being accused a racist by other Democrats that come to his defense. Conservatives are generally respectful of other people, including rats, and are uncomfortable going on the attack. That needs to change, big time. We need our conservative reps to fearlessly step up and criticize Obama relentlessly for all his sins.
Im hoping the next radical President will decide to ignore all gun laws passed since 1900.
How about the progressive income tax system?
What I want to know is how much longer you "principled conservatives" are going to be led around by the nose regarding the electability of our candidates by the LSM?
The LSM continually pushes Romney and Huck and trashes any of our conservatives, especially Sarah, and some of you just follow the line, with your tongues hanging out, drooling "Yup...yup...unelectable...O'Riley sez so...yup...yup!"
Politicians must be afraid of gays. Everyone is afraid to be voted out. Our t.v. heroes and musicians all think gay is cool!
Newt took an Idea Rush had and tweaked it. Rush threw out that if Obama can set precedent with this action.
Palin, If President, can decide she doesnt like Roe vrs. Wage———and using the Obama precedent to have here AG disregard and not protect Roe/Wade.
maybe a good trade off long term, but a very bad precedent in terms of Constitutional Rule of Law.
Marriage has been defined by the Christains for 2000 years as one of the cornerstones of society, the family. Sure there have been philosophers for the last 2000 years thinking they are clever too. Sure there have been goat humpers and other perverts (there is nothing new about perversions) wanting to attack marriage, the family and church. Our identity and success was founded in those principles and they held until we had a lying marxo muslim usurper move into our White House whose sole intent is to unwind the success of the largely Christian nation, the US of A.
There is nothing new about idiots and their perversions. WE can only gauge ourselves by their actions. Their next move in the current thought pattern is to deny 2011 and that it is 572 or whatever muslim year.
This is totally an attack on Christianity, marriage and the family and the leader of the “G7”. Basically another attack on Western Modern Man.
If Sarah Palin did half of what Barry is doing she would be impeached.
Our collective “black guilt” is allowing ourselves, the majority, to be led to our own destruction. Here we are witnessing him playing the race card to the nth degree and some are welcoming the US’s demise.
Gingrich is nuts. Not only can a president’s justice department decide not to defend a statute in court, they could choose to OPPOSE a statute in court, if they believed it was unconstitutional.
...former House Speaker Newt Gingrich said President Barack Obama's decision not to fully enforce the Defense of Marriage law eventually could lead to a constitutional crisis, as he has directly violated his constitutional duties by arbitrarily suspending a law. That was on the day of the interview. As soon as he's criticized as homophobic, he'll change direction. If Palin had tried that, well, she wouldn't be Palin. But this is about Gingrich.
Lets impeach Obama.
Obama wants his political opposition to take more drastic measures against him so he can invoke martial law.
Impeachment is good......Lets go for it GOP!! LETS DO IT.
Obama the fudge packer wants to make sure that America is further destabilized my the ruination of the family, which would allow him to make the state the parent of every child. Just like in fascist or communist nations.
I say we turf Obama and his regime. Do it any way we can.
But that’s OK, because 0bama is God and can do whatever he likes. /sarcasm

After reading a constitutional crisis violated his constitutional duties was unconstitutional I saw no real need to read further. Unless and until the subject of Barry's constitutional eligibility is addressed there is no constitution -- which this article clearly confirms. He did not violate any constitutional duty, as he has not been deemed constitutionally eligible. Period.
a very dangerous precedent

No Newt, the very dangerous precedent that was committed was allowing this poe to ascend, unvetted, to the highest position in the land. Surely you do not believe he cares about swearing on The Holy Bible. How does an unconstitutional usurper vow to uphold the constitution? Unbelievable ignorance and/or purposeful naiveté!
You must be that high-school cat who thinks (s)he looks smart by yelling something shocking in class. Someone should've told you by now that theses and suppositions must be supported and the more so the more provocative they are.
So, if you want to speak, please do so; but don't just throw out nice-sounding but ridiculous statements without a shred of support.
Gingrich — meh.
I’ll take anything he wants to throw in. ;-)
There is one more possibility: Calculating EVIL!
These guys make me sick.
Palin would rightly be impeached if she did it, and Obama should be impeached as well.
