Head starts are closing down because they are funded through social services and the left wants to create a public preschool/ day care starting at age 3 or 4, which would be part of the public school system. The reasons are myriad.
1. equalize benefits of preschool between middle class and poor minorities -all get same experience.
2. transfer cost from social services to education.
3. start 12 years of education at 3 and end it at 15. (The Obama administration wants to make the last two years of high school optional)
4. get control of all children at an early age and indoctrinate them into the liberal mind set while they are still vulnerable.
Spread the word!
The MSM, including radio, TV, cable, you name it, are out to luNch on that report. Didn't say "peep."
And therein lie cuts that are, by no stretch of the imagination DISCRETIONARY!!
Obummer said it with a straight face, chin up high in the air, fist pounding the table, "We took a scalpel, not a chainsaw, to the proposed discretionary budget!"
Big whooop!
The fixed part of the budget, which will last forever, is the other two thirds!!
Think "entitlements," and welfare enhanced Social Security and Medicare, paying people who never contributed one cent to the programs.
1) Mainstream Mexican anchor babies.
2) Provide some balanced nutrition to these anchor babies.
3) Acts as a gateway for their unregulated parents to enter into California's, social, safety networks.
4) Provides employment for the anchor babies of the 60's and 70's.
If it is so great, let churches provide headstarts in their idle-during-the-week tax-free church buildings.
“Good. Shut it all down.”
Indeed.
Goodbye Head Start.
And... good riddance.
the program did not accomplish what was intended: giving disadvantage kids a "head start" before entering kindergarten... but i am surprised it's going away!
Having lived in Oklahoma for twenty years, where the Indians don’t live on reservations, I was stunned when we drove around the Hardin area in Montana. Very depressing.
There is no reason for this program. Kids start going to Day Care Schools at the age of six weeks and attend until they begin Kindergarten. Head Start was a program that began well before Day Care Centers were common place. Basically Head Start has overstayed it usefulness. Good riddance.
I refuse to give the LAT a hit, so didn’t read the article, but it seems strange that a federal program would close down so quickly and in only one state. Much less this time of year relative to the regular school year. Are they talking about it re the ‘government shut down’ that may or may not happen?
“I laugh when the elected and appointed criminals in the Executive Department ask us with moronic expressions, “where do you want us to cut?”
My response is start with any department starting with the letter A, cut funding by 90% to start. Then move to B cut funding by 90%, then go thru the whole alphabet. When you get to Z, start over.
The only departments not seeing 90% cut are defense and military.
By the way 90% is conservative if I had my way anyhting not in the Constitution would be defunded overnight.

Head Start has been proved a failure by every study since its inception.
Good riddance. What a waste of hard earned taxpayer cash.
Huh? My husband was in the Navy for 10 years and doesn't get anything. If people are serving the full 20 years, I think they deserve benefits. So what are you talking about here?
A recent study showed that only 1 in 44 kids actually benefited from Head Start.
Star Parker said she used to drop her kids off at Head Start, cash her welfare checks then go shopping. What a life!
He might want to check into some of those, we're paying for it.
Basically all the teachers make it up. They have zero time to work with the kids and do the paperwork. In fact my poor sister ends up taking three unpaid hours of work home a night.
There is no money for the program IMO, and at least for illegals who don't speak English's well I don't see it doing anything. They still get to the first real test at 16 and then drop out of school.
