WASHINGTON (AFP) – The White House on Friday named Jeremy Bernard to serve as social secretary to President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle Obama, the first male and first openly gay person to hold the position.
The high profile job, traditionally filled by a woman, will put Bernard in ultimate charge of dispensing sumptuous White House hospitality at events from state dinners to holiday parties, concerts and tours of the presidential mansion.
"Jeremy shares our vision for the White House as the People's House, one that celebrates our history and culture in dynamic and inclusive ways," Obama said in a statement.
"We look forward to Jeremy continuing to showcase America's arts and culture to our nation and the world through the many events at the White House," Obama said.
Bernard, a long-time Obama supporter and fundraiser, has been serving as special advisor to the US ambassador to France at the US embassy in Paris.

"I have long admired the arts and education programs that have become hallmarks of the Obama White House and I am eager to continue these efforts in the years ahead."
A Texan, Bernard has been a prominent campaigner, fundraiser and administrator for national arts and education interests and also key lesbian and gay political causes.

She is the divorced wife of Chicago money manager and Forbes columnist John W. Rogers, a real favorite of Frantzie's.
Gee, this doesn’t have anythign to do with the timing of Obama saying DOMA won’t be defended....?
One of the main reasons I cancelled Forbes. They pimped for Rogers. Rogers was the earliest financier for hussein.
