Complete title: New Study Shows That Offshore Drilling Could Make Alaska the Eighth Largest Oil Producer in the World – Ahead of Libya and Nigeria

(CNSNews.com) – A new study says drilling on Alaska’s Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) could make Alaska the eighth largest oil resource province in the world -- ahead of Nigeria, Libya, Russia and Norway.

The report -- by the consulting firm Northern Economics and the University of Alaska-Anchorage’s Institute of Social and Economic Research -- says that developing Alaska’s OCS could produce almost 10 billion barrels of oil and 15 trillion cubic feet of natural gas, create around 55,000 new jobs and produce $145 billion in new payroll nationally, generating a total of $193 billion in government revenue through the year 2057.

A senior policy advisor with the American Petroleum Institute, the trade group for hundreds of U.S. oil and gas producers, said in a statement about the study that offshore drilling for oil and natural gas can help with the country’s energy and economic needs.

“America will need all forms of energy to get our economy back on track, and that includes oil – we can either produce it here and create more American jobs or import it and create jobs elsewhere,” Richard Ranger said. “The administration and Congress need to adopt an ‘all of the above’ energy approach that leverages our offshore resources in Alaska to create an energy plan for America that boosts, rather than inhibits, our economy.”

About 77 percent of world oil reserves are owned or controlled by national governments and the U.S. currently imports over 60 percent of its crude oil, according to API. The Northern Economics-University of Alaska study estimates that Arctic offshore development could cut U.S. imports by about 9 percent over 35 years.

Crude oil prices in New York broke through the $100-a-barrel threshold on Thursday, with rising prices linked to the unrest in the Middle East, including Libya and its vast oil reserves.

The Washington Post reported on Thursday that U.S. pump prices for regular gasoline jumped 4 cents a gallon overnight to $3.23, an 8-cent-per-gallon increase in the past week and 55 cents more than a year ago.

“Given the current political turmoil in the Middle East and increased demand from a slowly growing economy, it is more essential now than ever before that we develop Alaska’s OCS to increase domestic production,” Ranger said. “Increased OCS production in Alaska would also extend the operating life of the 800-mile Trans-Alaska Pipeline System (TAPS), a critical lifeline of domestic energy for America.”

And any Federal jackboots that try to stop Alaska from drilling should be arrested. Call up the Militia to protect the companies, if necessary.

Precisely. It’s time to shove it down their liberal fascist throats.

I honestly don’t know but if drilling permits for the Atlantic, Pacific and Gulf coasts were issued and more drilling permitted inland in Alaska and the lower 48 we might approach being the largest world producer.

needs to be started like now though because of the turmoil in the world.

And actually a lot of that turmoil is there BECAUSE we aren't drilling.

Because we're not drilling we are subject to some of the most repressive regimes in the world.

As soon as we drill, our freedoms can open up again...many other countries in the world benefit as well.

That would involve a spine and a willingness to tell Barry and his eco-wacko marxists to go to hell. All it takes is one to stand up and hold, even for a little while.

Your reply reminds me of an old Steven Wright line...

"I went to a 7-11 and asked for a 2x4 and a box of 3x5's. The clerk said, "10-4."

Not to mention all the animals who will enjoy sleeping next to all that nice warm crude flowing through their romper room.

See , even the foolish greenies can find a way to love this plan.

A concerted effort to achieve energy independence would turn this economy around so fast your neck would snap.

Energy is the basic component to all wealth. Energy is how you multiply your efforts, and plentiful low cost energy is prosperity. Choke off energy supplies and you choke off your own life. Pull out all the stops and generate energy and you and the whole country will prosper. You may not be a driller, or a builder, or an engineer, but whatever business you are in, you use energy. You buy products that are made with energy and shipped with energy. You eat food that was raised and shipped to you with energy. Everything you do requires it and lowering the relative cost of it is an instant pay raise to the entire country.

Take the Feds out to the AK wilderness and tell to walk back to town. Tell em to “watch out for those bears.”

Sadly after watching Murkowski steal the Senate seat in AK - I think AK is a semi-lib welfare state.

Not to change the subject but this article is not about drilling in ANWR. It is about the Alaska OCS (Outer Continental Shelf,) which are the federal waters offshore.

Well said...Abundant and cheap energy or at least cheaper than we have would solve many problems we are having now, in many areas.

The enviro-nazis, Ø, Nazi Pelousy, and the rest of the usual suspects act as if all the oil in the UAofA is THEIR OWN PROPERTY. If so, show the schlubs the pink slip to prove it. If they don’t have one, then get the he!! out of the way and let the adults suck the oil out of the ground. Make this country energy independent. The situation in the ME is not very stable and everyone knows what that means for the price of oil. Screw Obama and the rest of the impediments to progress and DRILL, BABY, DRILL!

The point is, to what lengths is Obama ready to look like the fool he is to the whold world, in order to stop whoever has the guts to drill anyway.
That could be the cork pop just like Wisonsin that brings down this house of cards.

“Murkowski-types against it (who fight for existing oil companies in Alaska who want to keep their fiefdoms)”

Ah, as usual, follow the money. I have nothing against oil companies (even though my husband was laid off from one for the crime of being over 55), but corporations and others are often guilty of trying to use the power of government to protect their turf. The free market works when it’s allowed to operate.

I've worked the last two years in Prudhue Bay. People see the adds showing wild life and mountains; that part of ANWR is 150 miles south of where the oil is located.

The north slope of Alaska is one of the most desolate places on earth.
