ROCK HILL, S.C. — As Sarah Palin wonders whether to run for president, she might want to talk to people in places such as South Carolina.
She'd find her star fading, and her prospects daunting.
Republicans still like her, but now they openly question whether she could or should be nominated for president, let alone elected.
At a recent gathering in South Carolina, the site of a crucial early presidential primary next year, party activists said the former Alaska governor didn't have the experience, the knowledge of issues or the ability to get beyond folksy slang and bumper-sticker generalities that they think is needed to win and govern.
Many are shopping for someone else. They're looking at Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., for example, and seeing what they call a smarter, more experienced candidate who's equally as conservative.
"Sarah Palin with a brain," said Gail Moore, a Republican from Columbia.

Shoot, that article was tame. You should see how the Herald treats Rick Scott on a daily basis. I’d call it venom, but that’s too nice of a word.

Jan Brewer, Governor of Arizona. She stayed in the job even though it has been very difficult. I am sorry, but Palin did not stay in the job...she did not “run” the state. She was elected, served for a short time, then left to run for VP...then quit. That isn’t experience. Sure you like her and you like what she says. So do I. I really do! I don’t care how she forms her sentences...I like what the content is. But, we need more than good soundbites.
Have you actually checked out her accomplishments? Don’t just repeat propaganda. Listen I lobbied McCain to pick her as VP based on that same positive press. But, the Presidency at this time is too important to give to another amature. It is one thing to be good at pointing out what is wrong with government, and to effectively critisize...it is quite another to offer solutions and to know how to get things done, to set it right.
I am sorry to say it, but really, she made a mess of things in AK, then quit.
She quit the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission, only 11 months after being appointed, and after stirring up a hornet’s nest and rooting out the corruption. Why not stay and mend what was broken, instead of gaining recognition and leaving a mess? What was the excuse for quitting this position?
Then Sarah quit the job that would have given her the right kind of experience, the governorship, after only 2 years on the job, much of the last year, spent campaigning nationally. I understand why she quit...but we need a person who would know how to get out of that kind of political trouble, without quitting! And the fact remains that her trouble began because of the very ethics law she pushed through and signed! We need someone with the experience and foresight to see and understand the consequences of their good intended actions.
Did you know she increased Wasilla’s town budget from 4 million to 6 million? We need government to cost us less, not more. And right now, Alaska has two competing pipelines, in the works. One a government promoted and favored project; the other a private project.
At Sarah’s leading, the Alaska State government gave Transcanada corp, 500 million dollars to build a pipeline and also gave them a 10 year freeze on production taxes to transport their gas through the pipeline (a government project—a stimulus package, if you will—benefiting a Canadian company, btw) Then the state govenment, under her “leadership”, raised the basic oil production tax by 2.5%. Trouble is, that the pipeline can not even go into production until federal energy regulators approve it! Politics rears it’s ugly head! Well, she made enemies of these regulators, but now needs their approval. She didn’t understand what it would take to get the job done right! She could see the problems, knew what needed to happen...but had no idea how to MAKE it happen. And then she left! She is on tv and book tours! This is becoming a “bridge to nowhere”..
Stimulus packages and tax hikes are not what I like to hear that our government is doing! ~ This is not conservative.
And then, what happened, is that the oil companies decided to build their own pipeline. Spending their own money. Ah, CAPITOLISM!
She does have very strong credentials to run FOR office. But, I doubt her ability to run the office.

The fact is, Sarah Palin completed one term and was not forced out until in her second term. Yes in principle she could have gotten out of the trouble — with a fortune the size of Bill Gates’ to tide her over until the Alaska legislature could fix the problem — and her political enemies would still have gone unpunished. Her ability to spring back on the scene, unashamed, amazed her enemies.

No, Palin quit in her first term, with roughly 17-months left on that term. Her service ran December 4, 2006 to July 26, 2009.

Palin ran Alaska and while in office was one of the most popular Governors in America.
She resigned for the obvious reasons after having to us personal money to counter gratuitous ethics cases. So, she resigned as Governor which was best for both Alaska and for Gov. Palin.
She took a promotion and brings her charisma and popularity to the Lower forty eight...right into the grill of Obama.
Palin has pointed out the absurdity of Obama’s foreign policy and his DOA Budget. When she announces, you will see her policy specifics.

Anyhow, what happened looks like divine design, not something that Sarah Palin would have planned in her own head. The hand of God is on that gal.
I like Bachmann, but she’s a legislator and the track record of legislators as executives isn’t very encouraging. Of course, there are always exceptions.

I know someone who attended Bachmann’s SC events - small crowds and poorly organized.
Palin was the one who made Nikki Haley governor. Haley’s people will have Palin’s back in the SC primary. These folks quoted in the article are probably from the losing candidates, so of course they wouldn’t support Palin.
Btw - shouldn’t Bachmann be tending to her Minnesota constituents instead of running for Prez? She just took in a boat load of money for her re-election. Freepers and others criticized Obama for that when he was IL Senator.

Dear Pissant, please seek help now. Our next president will be Madame President Sarah Palin. You must know this or you wouldn’t be in overdrive trying to convince people she is oh so bad. Which isn’t working.
Interesting to note that Rock Hill is essentially a suburb of Charlotte...just over the border in South Carolina.
