Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) is demanding two Homeland Security employees appear in front of his committees staff to talk about Freedom of Information practices, the first subpoena that directly targets the Obama administration.
The request comes as the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, of which Issa is the chairman, investigates whether DHS employees allow political interference when dealing with FOIA requests. People close to the committee say Issa has whistleblower documents that prove such activity occurs. His first subpoena went to Countrywide Financial.
The subpoena has sparked fresh conflict between Republicans and Democrats on the committee. Maryland Rep. Elijah Cummings, the top Democrat on the panel, is lashing out at Issa for not informing the minority about subpoenas as he had promised.
The abrupt manner in which you issued all three subpoenas over the past week has been inconsistent with this commitment, Cummings wrote in a letter to Issa on Thursday. The coercive power of this committee should be used only when the purpose of the subpoena is clear and reasonable efforts to obtain the information have been exhausted. Subpoenas should not be issued in a rushed and confused manner that leaves members of the Committee wondering whether they serve legitimate interests.
Cummings got his feelings hurt because he wasn't consulted, it's going to be a long two years for Cummings.
Frog march the whole gang up to Capitol Hill.
Just like I posted a couple of weeks ago when it was reported that the Obama gang was thumbing their noses at Issa.
“Subpoena is your friend.”
Now let’s see them laugh at Issa.
This is where people will perjure themselves... popping the corn.
Subpoena all of those czars while you’re at it Rep Issa!!
Get used to it Elijah, there is a new sheriff in town.
When is he going to subpoena the Hawaiian birth records?
When is he going to subpoena the Hawaiian birth records?
Or Obama’s application for a SSN, the one of many it is presumed...
I don't know. With Obama we have to think the unthinkable. The DOJ just issued an announcement that it would not defend the Defense of Marriage Act. The DOJ would be responsible for enforcing any subpoenas. What happens if the Administration defies the subpoenas and officials are judged in contempt of Congress and the Administration issues some PR announcement about the evil Republicans and ignores Issa?
Exactly...There's a lot of Rats who are going to be taking Issa very seriously.
Investigations into Obama’s impeachable offenses would be in order.
Oh gee, can’t everybody get along? These departments/committees have disintegrated into nothing but political vehicles. What does Issa think he will accomplish by subpoenaing crooked/corrupted politicians?? There’s more important business to attend to.
I mean recogonizing “gay” sex is critical
Encouraging anarchy throughout the country is critical
Decimating middle americans is priority
flipping the middle finger to allies is more important
Confiscating private businesses and banks is far more critical
Putting the ‘man’ down...well that’s goal number one.
Pffffftt....and Issa thinks it’s important to make these people accountable.
Sheesh........get with the program Issa. A new day is dawning in America
Elijah old son........ time for you to rise up and be gone from this earth
It is a wise idea to start with an agency no one likes.
The obama gang acts as if the laws are for the little people, not them. They have no respect for the Constitution. Hopefully, Issa knows this and just creates a flurry of legitimate subpoenas for team obama. At some point, it will become obvious that obama will not operate within the limits of the law and impeachment proceeding can begin. Make it a case that no one is above the law including the guy who plays president on tv.
And if the senate democrats won’t go along, tie them to obama in everyway possible.
Yep, over the next two years old Elijah won’t know if he’s Cummings or goings.
can congress call in the marines when necessary to enforce subpoenas on a DOJ that snubs the law...
might be nice to see.
teeman
I'm not sure. The Salahi's appeared and pled the fifth. I don't recall what happened to a request for guest lists, but that type of request has been refused before by both Republicans and Democrats.
