I made a few phone calls myself this morning. I contacted the NY AG office, the Buffalo AG office, the Wisconsin AG office and Koch Industries.
I got as far as the press office of the NY AG and chatted with that individual for about 15 minutes. It's hard to get through to the proper division but I'll check in again later. 1-800-771-7755.
I left a long, detailed message with the Buffalo AG. 1-716-853-8404.
The Wisconsin AG office told me that if an investigation was in the works, it would be kept quiet. Fine. Anyone can file a complaint in writing or by fax. 1-608-266-1221.
The best chat was with public affairs at Koch Industries. Oh, they know ALL about it. Obviously, they are guarding themselves because of what happened but the person I talked to was very nice. She said comments can be sent to info@kochind.com and they would be read. She seemed to enjoy my remarks but could not reveal much at all - which is the way it should be. (If you've never looked up David Koch and what he's done - try it. TRULY impressive.)
I'm not done yet. More phone calls will be made and further updates should come down the road.
Ian, lawyer up pal. You're gonna need it. (Psssst. And if I were you, I would take down the evidence from my dumpy website - eh?)
NY Penal Law ARTICLE 190 S 190.25 - Criminal impersonation - 2nd degree - class A misdemeanor
Remember the anal exam given to Joe the Plumber for far, far less.
[Wayne Enterprises accountant Coleman Reese believes that he's discovered Batman's secret identity, and is trying to blackmail Fox]
Lucius Fox: Let me get this straight: You think that your client, one of the wealthiest, most powerful men in the world, is secretly a vigilante who spends his nights beating criminals to a pulp with his bare hands. And your plan is to blackmail this person? Good luck.
What part of the law did he exactly break??? I know you posted a link, but what sentence specifically. I don;t think he tried to ‘benefit’, it was a prank call and the Gov fell for it. Next time he needs to be more careful
Place marker for further updates....I love the smell of rotting dem dreams in the morning, or afternoon, or evening.
Uh... apropos of nothing in particular... who on Earth is Ian Murphy?
S 190.25 Criminal impersonation in the second degree. A person is guilty of criminal impersonation in the second degree when he: 1. Impersonates another and does an act in such assumed character with intent to obtain a benefit or to injure or defraud another;
Do ya think the lefty meant it for Gov Walkers good?!
Don’t know if this has been covered at FR, but local radio guy Charlie Sykes reported this morning that the instigator of the call wrote a blog post in 2003 slandering US Servicemen.
The guy is a POS.
Just click on the Keyword “murphy” above Reply #1.
My husband works for Koch. They’re a great bunch of people.
The “benefit” would be obtaining an interview with the Governor of WI as well as drawing national attention/publicity to himself and his website. I think that would fit the definition of the crime. Also, posting the interview in an effort to embarrass the Governor would be considered an attempt to “injure” him which also meets with the definition of the crime
And David should be considered a leftist's WET DREAM!
Since 2000, Koch has pledged and/or donated more than $600 million to the arts, education and medical research, more than he gave to political causes.[20]
In July 2008, Koch pledged $100 million over 10 years to renovate the New York State Theater in the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts (now called the David H. Koch Theater),[21] and has pledged $10 million to renovate the outdoor fountains at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.[22]
Koch has been a trustee of the American Ballet Theater for 25 years[23] and has contributed more than $6 million to the theater.[24]
Koch contributed $7 million to the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) show Nova,[32] and is a contributor to the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C., including a $20 million gift to the American Museum of Natural History, creating the David H. Koch Dinosaur Wing and a contribution of $15 million to the National Museum of Natural History to create the new David H. Koch Hall of Human Origins, which opened on the museum's 100th anniversary of its location on the National Mall on March 17, 2010.[33]
Koch also financed the construction of Deerfield Academy's $68 million Koch Center for mathematics, science and technology,[34] and was named the first and only Lifetime Trustee.[34]
Koch gave $10 million to the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory[35] where he was honored with the Double Helix Medal for Corporate Leadership for supporting research that, "improves the health of people everywhere."[36]

He's a reporter. Bringing down a politician is a benefit to his career.
You would not know who Woodward and Bernstein were had they not brought down Richard Milhaus Nixon.
Got it - thanks.
Koch executives are not happy about the use of David Kochs name by the blogger. It was a fraudulent call, says Mark Holden, the general counsel for Koch Industries. There are serious fiscal issues at play in Wisconsin. Yet our opponents are interjecting us falsely into this story. But our Wisconsin story is about bringing and keeping good manufacturing jobs in the state. It is disturbing that when a blogger calls using the Koch name, it is used as an opportunity to attack the company.
Thanks - hopefully their team of attorneys have contacted the little weasel to let him know that big boys don’t take crap off of liars like him.
My guess - Ian doesn’t have a ‘general counsel’. He’s probably workin’ the Yellow Pages pretty hard right about now.
I hope he wet his panties when they called him.
