Canada, U.S. agree to use each other’s troops in civil emergencies
By Ottawa Citizen ^ | February 22, 2008

Canada and the U.S. signed an agreement that paves the way for either nation to send troops across each other’s borders during an emergency. Some question why the Harper government has kept silent on the deal.

Neither the Canadian government nor the Canadian Forces announced the new agreement, signed Feb. 14 in Texas.

The U.S. Northern Command publicized the agreement outlining how its top officer, Gen. Gene Renuart, and Canadian Lt.-Gen. Marc Dumais, head of Canada Command, signed the plan, which allows the military from one nation to support the armed forces of the other nation during a civil emergency.

The new agreement has been greeted with suspicion by the left wing in Canada and the right wing in the U.S.

The left-leaning Council of Canadians, which campaigns against what it calls the increasing integration of the U.S. and Canadian militaries, raises concerns about the deal.

“It’s kind of a trend when it comes to issues of Canada-U.S. relations and contentious issues like military integration. We see that this government is reluctant to disclose information to Canadians that is readily available on American and Mexican websites,” said Stuart Trew, a researcher with the Council of Canadians.

Trew said the agreement could militarize civilian responses to emergency incidents. Work is also underway for the two nations to put in place a joint plan to protect common infrastructure such as roadways and oil pipelines.

“Are we going to see (U.S.) troops on our soil for minor potential threats to a pipeline or a road?” he asked.

Trew also noted the U.S. military does not allow its soldiers to operate under foreign command so there are questions about who controls American forces if posted in Canada. “We don’t know the answers because the government doesn’t want to even announce the plan,” he said.

This is Bush's doing. I Googled "Gene Renuart," and he retired in 2010. The article is from Feb 2008.

0 knows our guys won’t fire on us. He has to have help to go to step 2, which is likely the final step in the demise of our great nation.

At what point does this violate our constitution? The government here must technically adhere to its provision...what happens when they farm it out to another organization? This is another in a long list of grievances I have with this POS in the white house. I don’t care who decided it was a good idea no matter how it is couched. Many great ideas end up biting you in the backside and this is one where I can see that coming. What happens when President for Life declares a national emergency and calls in some foreign troops, say from POKistan or Lybia or whereever. The Congress better wake up and take this SOB on now before it is pass the point of no return.

REV 2, 30 seconds to midnight.

Yeah, but I doubt German and Russian troops would fire on US citizens. Now if they imported a bunch of Venezuelan or Somalian types then yes, very likely.

And as several other posters have pointed out, why is this even needed? Since when does the United States go crying to anyone else when emergencies arise? We’re the PROVIDER or relief, not a consumer!

This stinks like a fat guy’s gym locker.

Kind of like using UN troops of which there are 1000s in this country at any given time. (and other foreign entities)

Harper was here a few weeks back in a presser with Barry.(but no Caldaron)

Both looked somewhat guilty.

This is only an agreement btwn 2 countries, not a ratified treaty. It’s null and void.

Any foreign army attempting to take police actions against U.S. citizenry are fair game for slaughter.

But after thinking about it for a little bit it has me wondering.

Two countries do not come to an agreement like this without working out the details for atleast a year, maybe two.

Taking that into consideration, this agreement was still signed 8 months before the financial meltdown happened.

Isn’t comforting to know that our White House [Bush at the time] was clairvoyant enough to foresee the collapse and were able to sign this agreement for our protection in case of civil unrest...

I agree with you completely. They wouldn't even have to shut down the internet. It's a chancy proposition to help a neighbor with a SWAT van and some guys holding the perimeter. Even if it was a "good" neighbor, most people would just 'tsk-tsk' and shrug their shoulders.

Anybody that joined any organization such as "Oath Keepers" or any type of "patriotic" organization is subject to the random search and destruction via IRS, BATF or FBI. That's how the Nazis got the Jews to voluntarily move.... at the point of a gun with no resistance or assistance from the general populace.

The TSA, SEIU, and other new found parasites will kill for their paychecks. Just look at them. They represent the finest in the parasite class. The BATF, FBI and US Marshall will protect their pensions. Spare me the sanctimonious "they'd never shoot at American citizens" ..... they have and they will if they want to feed their family and not end up at the business end of an M-4.

Look at what the war on drugs "accidentally" does with no knock dynamic entrances for BS excuses. Just a warm up for tactical experience. I've always stated that the reason the SWAT guys kill grannies, innocents and random folks along with their dogs is that the drug dealers have told them to knock the cr#p off or it'll be a war like Mexico. The donut munchers dressed in balaclavas getting hard ons pretending to be special operators would crap their pants if someone put a trip wire with a claymore at about 5 feet into a room or a pressure plate with a 20-30 second delay at the entrance to a house.

A lot of these little maggot gang bangers have military experience and actually know which way a claymore is supposed to point and how to set up an ambush with a kill zone. All we can do is make a conscious decision where we draw the line.

You might add that if you live in a major city inside of a beltway/interstate, you will have no way to escape even if given advanced warning. Those roads were first and foremost designed to facilitate military movements and control populations.

The best scenario is to dress in non military clothing (street casual), move only during daylight hours in a normal manner so the LEOs can’t light you up from the air, and work from within whatever system is left to slow the buggers down.

I’m going into the coastal swamps and hide out until it is over, then come out and declare myself POTUS! :)
