Canada, U.S. agree to use each other’s troops in civil emergencies
By Ottawa Citizen ^ | February 22, 2008

Canada and the U.S. signed an agreement that paves the way for either nation to send troops across each other’s borders during an emergency. Some question why the Harper government has kept silent on the deal.

Neither the Canadian government nor the Canadian Forces announced the new agreement, signed Feb. 14 in Texas.

The U.S. Northern Command publicized the agreement outlining how its top officer, Gen. Gene Renuart, and Canadian Lt.-Gen. Marc Dumais, head of Canada Command, signed the plan, which allows the military from one nation to support the armed forces of the other nation during a civil emergency.

The new agreement has been greeted with suspicion by the left wing in Canada and the right wing in the U.S.

The left-leaning Council of Canadians, which campaigns against what it calls the increasing integration of the U.S. and Canadian militaries, raises concerns about the deal.

“It’s kind of a trend when it comes to issues of Canada-U.S. relations and contentious issues like military integration. We see that this government is reluctant to disclose information to Canadians that is readily available on American and Mexican websites,” said Stuart Trew, a researcher with the Council of Canadians.

Trew said the agreement could militarize civilian responses to emergency incidents. Work is also underway for the two nations to put in place a joint plan to protect common infrastructure such as roadways and oil pipelines.

“Are we going to see (U.S.) troops on our soil for minor potential threats to a pipeline or a road?” he asked.

Trew also noted the U.S. military does not allow its soldiers to operate under foreign command so there are questions about who controls American forces if posted in Canada. “We don’t know the answers because the government doesn’t want to even announce the plan,” he said.

this is VERY VERY BAD!

Furthermore is absolutely needless, as we’ve never had an emergency in either country that the locals could not handle.

Offends me as an American and I’m sure the Canadians I know do not like this idea any better.

If any Canadian troops come over our border and try to enforce anything on an American citizen it should be seen as an act of war by a foreign invader.

Hmmmm, maybe Obozo has some kind of a secret agreement with the Mexican military already and that's why they so boldly came over our border recently.

They know American troops cannot be trusted to fire on American citizens. This is how they try to get UN troops into the US to suppress the American population. The fact is there are enough US troops to handle any kind of legitimate emergency so we don’t need Foreign troops here.

I strongly recommend that all who care contact their local Alarm and Muster organization and get to work. I've begun to work with these folks of late.

What I bring to the table is my ability to design and stand up a local intranet on the cheap, one that can be scaled up to regional coverage as time goes on. The ability to stay in touch independent of phone and regular internet will be invaluable.

Check out Ubiquiti networks for some very interesting and dirt cheap tech.

the new agreement, signed Feb. 14 in Texas.

Really? Texas? I suspect another country that was involved in this agreement was left out of the reporting for some reason.

The NAU marches forward.  Has anyone noticed that it doesn't matter if it's republican or democrat administrations in washington as it regards these things?

When oil shoots up due to Middle East riots, the dollar collapses, and the economy goes in the toilet the American people will be rightful upset. Homeland Security and the North American Union has been built up to contain us. After a while of this chaos and turmoil the Globalists will be there to save the day with their One World Government and One World Currency. We just have to give up all our rights and all our wealth. Most Americans will easily submit to return to a sense of normalcy. The ones that resist will be declared domestic enemy combatants and disappeared. This has been planned out years ago. Welcome to the New World Order.

It's a lot easier for any foreign soldier to fire upon Americans.

And vice versa

Yes indeed. You know how we have all wondered if American troops would fire on its own civilians if, say for instance, we were under martial law? Now this problem is solved. Our government will use Canadian troops.
