Sen. Dale Schultz, R-Richland Center, promised in column released tonight that he will introduce an amendment to the budget repair bill that would restore collective bargaining rights after 2013.
"I agree with the long-term goal to have balanced state budgets without tax increases, transportation fund raids, and excessive borrowing. We can achieve that goal and preserve the Wisconsin community we want without having to eliminate collective bargaining in perpetuity," Schultz wrote. "With collective bargaining, Wisconsin residents have enjoyed high-quality and uninterrupted public services for decades. Our thinking and our decision about collective bargaining in Wisconsin should revolve around what is fair for our middle-class neighbors with public sector jobs in our own community."
Schultz added his proposal - which would retain the proposed health care contribution increase and hike the pension contribution to six percent - would apply to all public employees.
I like to think of Ripon as the birthplace of the Republican Party, and Madistan as the birthplace of the FLEE PARTY!

.
... and there won’t be any Dems there to vote for it.
This may be clever.
Maybe it’s just me, but I’m thinkin’ Walker has already talked to the man...or sent Fitzgerald in, LOL!
I think we can count on Governor Walker. He does not seem swayed by the theatrics and I don’t think he gives a rat’s rump about the political fall-out. I think he’s the Second Coming of Tommy Thompson in some ways - but this time the man has an actual SOUL that is not for sale.
(I did love me my Tommy at one point, but he’s proven to be a political hack...)
Perfectly stated!
yep...
:(
Collective bargaining is part of the problem that got WI into the mess its in, behind $3.6 billion, and overspending. So, lets stop CB for about 2-3 years to get halfway out of the hole, and then re-institute CB to dig the same hole again?
Yep, exactly. The WI Governor is one of the most powerful Governor positions in the country. This amendment will die quickly.
Shame on this spineless RINO, a Benedict Arnold who stabs his courageous governor in the back. Were I in this amoeba’s district, I’d be gathering names on a recall petition tomorrow.
who blackmailed/paid him off?
Yeah, because people picture a bunch of top-notch go-getters when they think of government employees. Take a lesson from Gov. Christie on this one, Schultz. He said:
There are two classes of citizens (in NJ): the people who get benefits, and the taxpayers who pay for them.
I agree about Walker. I think he’ll hang in there.
Tommy got a terminal case of beltwayitis, which makes male genitalia fall off before it attacks what little brain tissue exists.
No kidding! I won’t ever forgive Presidnet Bush for taking Tommy from us. For all of his faults, Tommy WAS our Last Line of Defense agsint the ‘Rats.
It truly HAS been all downhill from the minute Tommy left us. The ‘Rats swooped in and totally screwed up this state...until NOW!
Ever hopeful! :)
Good.
Nothing like snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.
I’ve known Dale Schultz since when he was in the state assembly when I volunteered for Republican candidates while I was in high school in that area. He is widely known among conservatives here in Wisconsin as being a particularly unprincipled empty suit. The only thing keeping him from being expelled like his political soul-mate Mary Panzer is that he represents a more liberal area in the south eastern part of the state. A Republican caucus can only be as conservative as its most liberal member. Dale Schultz has got to go.
Had he been elected 4 years ago with a Dem controlled legislature, this moment might have been nothing but year 5 of the usual nipping at heels. We have a chance to totally change the course of the state.
Isn’t this the guy whose wife is a high school principal?
When is his term up?
I thought that was Ed Schultz.
