The fast track to workers' comp: Thousands have been paid to those with just a doctor's note
BY BETH HUNDSDORFER AND GEORGE PAWLACZYK - News-Democrat
Sunday, Feb. 06, 2011

A state, municipal or private worker can get thousands of tax-free dollars through workers' compensation based primarily on a doctor's note. All that is needed is a report stating the claimant has a wrist condition known as carpal tunnel syndrome or cubital tunnel syndrome, which can affect the elbow.

Surgery or treatment of any kind is not required. A lawyer isn't needed.

And the public won't know anything about it until the money is on the way.

On Jan. 29, the News-Democrat reported that Dibble received $48,790 last year and that his case was never officially filed even four months after the settlement was approved by arbitrator Ruth White as part of the uncontested settlement procedure. The official case file is still missing, according to a commission spokeswoman, but an official case number has been assigned -- 10WC050161.

Dibble, who has stated he has been directed by supervisors not to comment, had the second highest average settlement rate among the 50 repetitive trauma awards to state workers listed on the 3,500 case commission database.

The database showed Dibble approved 10 of the 50 awards for a total of $447,305 or $44,730 each.

Can anyone say “fraud”? How about “penitentiary”?

You know, now that we have documented proof, caught on video, of doctors making false reports about the health of teachers, they should be investigated to see if they have been writing false reports to get their friends in the teacher’s unions this workers compensation.

I would have thought that Doctors were above this, but now that we know they are not, we need to crack down hard, because the alternative is government doctors doing this work of clearing the claims, and we know government doctors would end up being in bed with the public employee unions as well.

And we also now know that teachers will lie in order to get paid for work they didn’t do; so clearly they would also lie to get workers compensation.

If they argue that we are sullying their good name by asking the question, we just need to show the video of teachers asking doctors for “notes” proving they were “sick” when they were at the capital, and doctors signing those notes.

as in someone who was wounded in battle etc..

probably twice as much...

AAPS (Association of American Physicians and Surgeons) comments were gratifying.

AuntieDebbie says: How can anyone be on the side of the unionized teachers? They have been receiving unbelievable benefits, but the taxpayer and the States can no longer afford it. If a teacher isn’t there for the benefit of the students, then they need to find a new trade. Look at all the parochial and private schools that produce productive people with great grades and they do it at a fraction of the cost of the public school student. So any doctor who willingly gives a false written excuse also needs to find a new line of work because their credibility is worthless.

Alan B Schorr DO says: These physicians, if true, should be prosecuted and brought before the ethics board. Their licenses to practice should be suspended or revoked. There is no excuse for fraud nor an excuse to solicit union members to give them notes. The video appears damning. However, it is possible that the union provided “physicians” and these so called doctors may not even be in the professional. Either way, this is a disgrace!!
