The failed states of NY, CA, NJ, MI look ridiculous now. Why should we pay their bills and subsidize THEIR failures?

Cut their money off!

Leave Michigan out of this. Detroit and Michigan are NOT synonymous. Detroit is a just a burden we've had to bear...

Good timing.

60 students per teacher?

Yeah, that’ll fly.

I was in Michigan last summer. I met someone contracted by the state to help audit the Detroit Public School District. He said the bulk of the $327 million deficit was due to theft by employees at all levels.

This is on top of all the other abandoned schools in this "Up And Coming" city. This is only the beginning when you are broke and all the people with money are heading for the exits.

This site is a treasure trove of the true decay of Detroit.

Aside from the obvious problem of having an average class size of 60 students, I suspect we’ll see an increase in fights and other problems in these schools because the consolidation will almost surely bring students from rival schools - and probably a few rival gangs - into the same building.

I saw it happen in my home town when just one or two schools were closed and students shunted to rival schools. One school had at least a dozen incidents the first week - everything from fistfights to a incoming student being robbed at knifepoint. Multiply that to half the schools in a major city and there’s potential for some serious headaches here. Ya couldn’t pay me enough to be a teacher in the Detroit school system.

This public employee union mess needs to be called what it is.

It is a taxpayer funded money laundrying scheme that has financed the democrat party for the last 40 years.

More money won’t help Detroit’s schools at this point. Do you realize, that even after the cuts, the DPS per student budget will still be over $20,000 per student.

Detroit is considered the most Liberal City in America. Gary, Indiana is number 2. You see what 50+ years of liberalism brings. Misery.....

I have wondered for decades why the leftists in our media can’t put the two together.

The Detroit News says the financial restructuring plan will increase high school class sizes to 60 students and consolidate operations.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

How is it that college freshmen routinely attend large lecture classes of 100 or more students, but 3 months earlier their government teachers insisted on classes of 20 or less?

The Detroit schools were taken over by the state during Granholm’s administration, something about their being terribly run. Imagine. The kids need to be split up by gender and in uniforms, and maybe a lot of them just sold for medical experiments. Oh, sorry, I didn’t realize I typed that last part out loud.
