The enforcement of gun laws(PA)
post gazette ^ | 21 February, 2011 | Gabrielle Banks

Hoping to position itself as the voice of reason in the middle is a nationwide coalition of more than 550 mayors, including Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl and 184 others in Pennsylvania. Mayors Against Illegal Guns, a group founded in 2006 by New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Boston Mayor Thomas Menino, has called for better federal funding and improved coordination between agencies to make enforcement of gun laws a possibility.

However, gun lobby groups and pro-gun lawmakers contend the mayors' group has a more sinister agenda. They say the mayors place the burden of tracking illegal guns on law-abiding gun owners and, ultimately, aim to ban all firearms.

The mayors' group has helped defeat legislation that would allow gun owners with concealed-weapons permit in one state to carry a concealed firearm in another, a sore point with National Rifle Association supporters. The mayors' group wants to make federal trace data about guns used in crimes available to law enforcement and to make summary reports about trace data available to the public -- another sore point for foes.

"They are waging war against law abiding gun owners," said NRA spokeswoman Rachel Parsons.

Gun laws
Try enfocing criminal laws and the gun law take care of themseleves.
I challenge anyone of these mayors to show me a non crinmial citizen that is breaking “gun laws” If they are brea=king laws then they are criminals and very likely breaking dozens of them in various forms. Arrest prosecute and lock up the criminals (drug runners, gang members, etc. and the gun crime drop to miniamal.

They forgot the part where many of these “Mayors Against Illegal Guns” themselves have since been arrested for gun crimes.

“Three current and former members of the Mayors Against Illegal Guns Coalition are currently under felony indictments, six others were recently convicted of felonies, one indicted member died of a heart attack before completion of his trial, and one member was recently convicted of a violent misdemeanor. “

The assumption in this discussion is that the Mayors' group, which was founded by Bloomberg, has as its focus the elimination of guns.

What if its only purpose is to monitor the flow of guns into the legitimate market to inform criminals or criminal groups.

Imagine yourself not as a "target" for a moment but as a "competitor" with the other guy always interested in how well armed you and your friends really are so that he can avoid contact as he goes about his business ~ e.g. hijacking trucks, peddling hookers and children, and running narcotics.

If all Bloomberg has to face is the cops, then he's home free. No doubt he'll do anything to route around an armed populace, and where necessary "prune" that populace to disarm them. Pennsylvania would seem to be a place on the route that he'd like disarmed a bit.

Now that I've quit laughing ... ... ...

I recall Fast Eddie Rendell, Bubba clinton, and Wayne LaPierre of the NRA having a big smooch-fest over PA's "5 Year Additional Incarceration" for any criminal caught just carrying a gun.

I'm willing to bet that less than 50 of those 1155 arrests ever had that penalty imposed, and most of the ones that made it through to conviction never had it broached.

Gun Control is all about the control, not the gun.

You’d think that it would be common sense not to try to make criminals out of people who are minding their own business and not hurting others, but those who have some strange need to rule us don’t have much common sense.
