DGA Chairman blasts Christie: 'Tea partying governors live in a different world'
By Shane D'Aprile - 02/19/11 10:58 PM ET

Maryland Governor Martin O'Malley (D), called out New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie again Saturday during a speech at a Democratic fundraising dinner, saying the "tea partying" governor lives "in a different world than ours."

O'Malley, the chairman of the Democratic Governor's Association, accused Christie and other GOP governors across the country of irresponsibly slashing funding for priorities like education and infrastructure.

"The tea partying Republican governors would have us believe a lot of things that just aren't so," said O'Malley. "They would have us believe that we can somehow eat cake and lose weight. They would have us believe that we can just cut our way to a better future -- no need to invest in education or rebuild our infrastructure."

O'Malley was keynoting the Virginia Democratic Party's annual Jefferson-Jackson fundraising dinner, where he touted former Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine's record of "fiscal discipline," slamming GOP governors who he said "would have you believe that they are the only governors who balance their budgets every year."

"At the Republican governor's tea party, where colorful characters like Chris Christie preside, there is no need to pay bills, no need to protect bond ratings, no need to invest in the future," O'Malley said. "Down is up, up is down; candy is a vegetable, and vegetables are candy."

O'Malley's comments mark the continuation of a public feud between the two governors. Earlier this month, Christie slammed O'Malley in an interview on Fox Business Network after the Maryland governor said Christie "delights in being abusive towards public employees."

"He doesn't know what he is talking about," Christie said in response to O'Malley. "Come to New Jersey and listen to what I am saying, rather than listening to his Democratic consultants."

After reading this, and listening to the ‘rats’ spin, they are becoming increasingly unhinged and divorced from reality.

That’s something we have seem for a long time, but now they are showing their true colors before an ever growing interested American people.

We certainly do -- one that believes in spending only what we take in, unburdening private employers from excessive government regulation, and providing our children with an education on how to succeed in the real world not one dependent on nanny government for everything.

The cake is the infrastructure and the weight is the government.

The tea party don’t want the cake thus won’t have the weight, while the dem want the cake and reduce the weight

Spot on - Christie lives in a world where people pay their bills and don’t make promises of money that they know they can’t keep! It’s called the real world!

"At the Republican governor's tea party, where colorful characters like Chris Christie preside, there is no need to pay bills, no need to protect bond ratings, no need to invest in the future," O'Malley said. "Down is up, up is down; candy is a vegetable, and vegetables are candy."

For O’Malley the bills he wants to pay is the bills of public employee unions.

For O’Malley his method of protecting bond ratings is to raise taxes on the private sector to pay for bonds that fund projects that employ union construction workers that are paid ‘prevailing wages’ (also known as inflated wages).

For O’Malley the investment in the future he wants to make is to throw more money down the rabbit hole of public education, to invest in smaller class sizes for incompetent public school teachers and more layers of overpaid and underworked school administrators.

It is Gov. O’Malley who has confused his cardinal directions I fear.

Democrats accusing Republicans for their own misdeeds. Democrats deceive the public by calling all spending as investing. If it were a felony for debasing the English language to deceive the public, Democrats would have to perform their functions from prison cells.

We have the second highest per student funding in the entire world, yet our students are not the second highest in educational success. How can that be? /s

I heard the President’s State of the Union speech, and it was two weeks after mine, and he said America was about doing the big things. Now I’m not saying he copied me. I’ve seen some writing about that, that’s not what I’m saying.

But I think it’s important to note it because of what he says the big things are. He says the big things are high speed rail. The big things are high speed internet access for almost eighty percent of America or something by some date. One million electric cars on the road by some date. Ladies and gentlemen, that is the candy of American politics. Those are not the big things.

Because let me guarantee you something, if we don’t fix the real big things, there are going to be no electric cars on the road. There is going to be no high speed internet access, or if there is you’re not going to be able to afford to get on it. We are not going to be able to care about the niceties of life, the investments that Washington wants to continue to make. That’s not what we need to be talking about.

--Gov. Chris Christie, AEI speech

O'Malley is another data point that what CZAR B.O. is babling about, represents the essence of the Democrap Party!

All of the CZAR B.O.rantings are items that the Democraps have incrementally been trying to implement for the past 50 years. The Democrap Congress (both House and Senate) last year voted the legislation and CZAR B.O. signed them.

CZAR B.O. is merely the Congressional spokesman for the Democraps. They needed a Negro to use as a branding iron against anyone who opposed their Socialist initiatives.

And O’Mally’s the guy who says “Florida doesn’t want high speed rail subsidies, send them to Maryland!” Governor O’Mally: what happens when the subsidies run out? What happens when all you are left with is an over-priced rail system that nobody uses and loses money each year? Oh, yeah: it’s infrastructure spending, Baby! The more, the better!
