[Madison, WI] As tens of thousands of public employees skipped work this week to attend protest rallies outside the Wisconsin State Capitol, many wondered if they would face any disciplinary action for unexcused absences.
On Saturday, a group of men and women in lab coats purporting to be doctors were handing out medical excuse notes, without examining the patients.
I asked this doctor what he was doing and he told me they were handing out excuses to people who were feeling sick due to emotional, mental or financial distress, said Christian Hartsock. They never performed an examhe asked me how I was feeling today and I said Im from California and Im not used to the cold, so he handed me a note.
Another woman, who wished to remain anonymous, said they were handing out excuses like they were leaflets.
I asked if they were handing out doctors excuses and a guy said yes and asked me if I needed one, she said. When I told them I needed one for February 16 and 17th, he wondered if I wanted to come back here for the protests next week.
What happened next?
I said, sure, and I received a doctors note for the 16th through the 25th of February, without a medical exam.
The notes read
Feb 19, 2011

Based on an examination of the signature and medical license number provided, one of the men handing out these notes was purporting to be James H Shropshire MD, a Clinical Associate Professor at the University Wisconsin Madison.
At this time, MacIver News Service is attempting to contact Dr. Shropshire to see if indeed he was the one handing out the notes on the Capitol Square.
I hope so, but I won’t hold my breath. These bastards seem to get away with more and more outrageous behavior.
I agree or else they wouldn’t be so blatant about it.
While there may not be the kind of fireworks-in-the-sky, license-losing, publicly humiliating, above-the-fold front-page news that we'd like to see happen to these quacks...a lot of folks are watching this and making up there minds as to how they're gonna vote in 2012.
I think the blowback will be revealed then...on a much grander scale.
Fox News just ran a story on this! Two wonderful ladies showed their ‘sick note’ they stood in line to get to prove fraud.
Fox just covered it live with some gals that got the fake notes.
It's going VIRAL, baby!
It’s seems there is an epidemic in Wisconsin. Has anyone called the C.D.C. for a quarantine yet?
Did these “doctors” perform exams on the street corner? How is this NOT fraud? I would be happy to testify against any of these people. They should lose their licenses. They “might” have gotten away with this if they set up some kind of tent and actually submitted a diagnosis code. I’d be prosecuted if I did this in my office. It would be funny (not really) if one of these sick people had a heart attack. Their families could collect MILLIONS in malpractice judgements. These “doctors” are a disgrace to the profession.
Suspend the license to practice of the unprofessional physicians, and if they are state university employees then they should be fired as well.
This has me livid.
ping for fax number
They should do HARD TIME for what they are doing! That is nothing but FRAUD trying to get money (paid sick leave) for the teachers protesting.
Any doctor involved in this should lose his license. Period.
This is why you should never lie—because it takes even more lies to cover up the first one.
These protesters (some of them anyway) are teachers?!? These unethical, lying cretins are teaching children?!? Yes, I would fire these so-called teachers immediately if I had the power. They should be light years away from children.
Can you believe this?
How ignorant are these people!
Hahaha! Fox is hammering this.
Fox is doing more on this story shortly! Gregg Jarrett is on it!
Yes. The “doctors” handing out the fake notes and any of the people accepting and using them need to be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
