Madison — The head of the largest state workers union said Friday that his group is willing to give in to Gov. Scott Walker's demand for concessions on their benefits if the governor gives up his bid to repeal nearly all bargaining rights for public worker unions.

Marty Beil, head of the Wisconsin State Employees Union, which represents some 23,000 blue-collar state workers, said his group would agree to pay more of their pension contributions and health insurance benefits.

"We are prepared to implement the financial concessions proposed to help bring our state's budget into balance, but we will not be denied our God-given right to join a real union . . .  we will not - I repeat we will not - be denied our rights to collectively bargain," Beil said in a statement.

Walker spokesman Cullen Werwie said he would review Beil's statement and respond as soon as possible.

The news comes as the standoff on the budget repair bill drags, a throng of thousands demonstrate at the Capitol, and national figures weigh in on the events.

“I would be shocked if he caves now.”

Me too.

I’ve never been prouder to be a cheese-eater. (Although I’m not quite use to having my fine WI cheese with this much French Whine from the nothing-butt-backside senate Dems.)

Right now is when a system-wide voucher plan should be proposed. When the immaturity and unreliability of the current system is on such obvious display.

Hey, let’s be democratic about this. Hand out the vouchers and see how many families voluntarily attend the union schools.

It’s my understanding that base pay wage increases would be limited to the CPI (consumer price index) unless voters agreed to something higher. No other collective bargaining would be permitted, except for the exempted unions. Civil service rules regarding retention and grievances etc would remain in effect.

the unions stonewalled in December. So Scott walker sees a solution and now the Unions are crying and protesting with the aide and abetting by Odumbo and the National DNC. To the Union go to Odumbo and cry on his shoulder. Bunch of babies you will lose your jobs and join the unemployment lines. Good get rid of the union that is no good and worthless.

Apparently, this thug is pretty scared those "rights" are going to be yanked away, or he wouldn't be offering these "concessions."

That was my immediate reaction to the headline...

“glad to welcome states like New Jersey and Wisconsin back to the United States.”

Thanks! I like what you’ve done with the place. You didn’t let MN touch our stuff did you?

I’m afraid we’re (WI) still harboring such undesirables as Rusty Feingold and Dave “Stimulus” Obey. But they have now been de-fanged. Mostly they are just used as the “before” picture opposite Walker’s “after” pic on our facebook page detailing our fine state’s progress in the Dry Tit Weaning Program.
