...when this plain spoken, refreshingly candid man from New Jersey spoke at AEI and took on the lack of courage among politicians in both parties in facing the pending economic collapse in this country, I was not a bit surprised.
He offered the kind of "one liners" which the Press loves in an age that has less and less tolerance for demagoguery. He said "Here's the truth that nobody's talking about. You're gonna have to raise the retirement age for social security. Whoa, I just said it, and I'm still standing here. I did not vaporize into the carpeting." He shared several of his experiences since taking the Governor's office with the manner which continues to appeal to people like me, a former Democrat from Dorchester, Massachusetts, from a blue collar family. I was jettisoned from that Party when they failed to hear the cry of children in the womb.How can any Party claim to care about the poor when they hide the intrinsic evil of killing children in the womb behind a claim to some alleged "right" to do so? Back then, I was drawn to another plain spoken Republican named Ronald Reagan. Today, I find few in either Party who have the same effect on me. There is a certain former Senator from Pennsylvania named Rick Santorum and this Governor from New Jersey. ...

Any one of these would make me very happy. This guy has the guts necessary to cream the opposition. I’m afraid that’s what it takes these days.
The big fat man will serve out his term, take rottenburgs senate seat and then start writing anti gun laws, so he has to be watched closely.

The rush to make him President is in my mind political stupidity. He has accomplished very little. He has promised and is working to deliver. He is young.
Once he has accomplished what he sat out to do and has been tempered to toughness in the furnace of adversity, then he can be the unbeatable candidate.

Where to start, christie is not running, Ryan supported TARP and jindal is not natural born, so that leaves Backmann.
He needs to stay in NJ and work on making NJ more conservative. He’s anti-2nd amendment, and that makes him someone I would never vote for.

He saved New Jersey from certain financial bankruptcy and is working to deregulate the liberal job destroying regulators of DC and NJ statists. He works very hard and I am sure it takes lots of work to undo the evil the left is and has done.
Compare him to Obama who has accomplished only the destruction of our country and economy and I would have to belive your opinion is wrong, very wrong indeed.

but he is NOT national material for most conservatives...he is strictly an economic conservative.

Why is it when Christie gives this type of speech this is the response but when Sarah Palin does it....it’s out of whack and wrong.....??
Problem with Christie is that he is pro-Muslim, pro-gay, pro-Gun Control....he is pretty much a liberal who can balance a checkbook.
Nice that he is doing something about the state budget in NJ....but in most places, he would be considered a Democrat.
If he is liberal in so many areas....he is bound to go soft in his one strong area.....government fiscal responsibility

Christie is a fine governor for NJ. They have big financial problems and they need someone like Christie who is willing to try to straighten them out. But as a presidential candidate? He's a bad choice for a large number of reasons -- and he has said repeatedly that he has no interest.
When Scott Brown was elected to the senate, many people saw him as a potential presidential candidate. Please! The guy is a screaming Liberal. Sure, he's better than Ted Kennedy, but that's as far as I'll go.
We have real Conservatives in this country: Palin, Bachmann, Demint, etc. We need to support them, not tear them down (as certain Freepers do). I'm glad Christie is doing what he's doing, but he'll never get my vote.
He’s staying right here in NJ—hopefully for two terms. He has said again and again 2012 is out. I’m sure he’s going to be asked to be VP though, and I’m hoping he turns it down.
If he’s not up to run for President, I see no way he would settle for a VP role. He’s an alpha dog.
My instincts tell me you are right. It's just that while he emphatically says no to a presidential bid, when asked about VP, he uses a semi-evasive non-denial (Can you see me as second fiddle?). No one has really pressed him on that one. And hey, you may not know until you get the phone call. I'm sure the subject came up when Romney came a-calling recently.
I HOPE you are right. I don't want to lose him. Not for another 7 years or so.
And to hand our country over to illegal aliens and Islamists. The whole picture oof Christie is rather less pleasing than the gratifying, budget-slashing part of him.
With his weight, he is going to have to be young to run for POTUS or people will question his health.
