Rep. Michele Bachmann Thursday noticeably sidestepped the long-standing issue of President Obama's citizenship, saying "it's not for me to state" whether the president is or is not an American citizen.
"That isn't for me to state, that's for the president to state," the Republican congresswoman from Minnesota and Tea Party favorite said on ABC's "Good Morning America" when asked about lingering doubts among some Americans that the president was not born in the United States.
"When the president makes his statements, I think they need to stand for their own," Bachmann also said when asked if she believed the president's own contentions that he was, in fact, born in the United States.
"We should take the president at his word," Bachmann said. Then asked if she'd be willing to flat out state the president is a citizen and Christian, the congresswoman said she was more focused on economic concerns.
The comments come days after House Speaker John Boehner addressed the issue in a way some Democrats thought was not definitive enough.

If they were of the canine species they would be rabid. I know what their game is. It is along the lines of Orwell's thought crime. Not merely to refuse to come out and say the most assertive birthers might be right, but to defend their right to say it.
Once again I repeat that the main repository of information is the President himself. He did say that he saw his birth certificate by chance. Surely his mother must have mentioned something about it. Granted he must have full rights as any citizen for some privacy in the matter. It may not be public spirited to deny direct reference to his birth. This is the long form certificate, or a delayed registration of birth.
Again the definition of a "natural born citizen" needs clarification. I cannot believe the framers of the Constitution would wish a foreign born non-citizen father to be able to claim an offspring as "natural born citizen".
I doubt we’ll be seeing the greatest hypocrite at FR on this thread.

Any Republican who sides with the Bither “theory” would be lambasted until they could prove their assertion.
Since there is currently no definitive proof one way or the other regarding Obama’s birth status, prominent Republicans should stay neutral on the subject until there is.
As for me, I will be convinced about Obama’s status when I see the proof. Until then, he is just another Kenyan Usurper Gangsta with a Karl Marx fetish.

Up until recently; the hate and invective and ugly ascriptions were focused against Sarah Palin; almost exclusively. Now, their fear is growing, expanding; so it is the Tea Party that is getting the same MO of ad nauseum, hourly 'hits'from the Left. And then there is Ron Paul. . .and those 'like-minded'. . .

On the contrary, that is the question, and the right answer. It’s the same question being used by all the state-run media stations who are looking for sound bytes that can be used to show that even Conservative canditates think birthers are nuts.
The Republicans know he will be re-elected and are keeping their public statements clean for 2016
How come the subject is always about is father..he has/had an American born mother.
