Nine people on Long Island have been accused of illegally selling assault weapons that had been modified to appear as if they were no longer semi-automatic.
Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice said Thursday that five Nassau gun shops sold assault weapons to undercover officers during the course of a 10-month investigation. Four store owners and five employees of the stores have been arrested and charged, Rice said.
One suspect, Martin Tretola of Bellmore, "went so far as to demonstrate to undercover officers how to remove a temporary fixed stock and replace it with a collapsible one," Rice said.
Under state law, only law enforcement and certain members of the military are legally permitted to possess assault weapons, defined in New York as guns that reload automatically, hold more than 10 rounds or accept detachable magazines.
Authorities said the weapons were rigged so that they would no longer automatically reload -- a fix that was easy to reverse.

Incredible they just need to stop impeding our 2nd amendment rights...this is insanity...
Dang, that looks a lot like one of the contractors who comes into my store each morning. About his mindset too.
Please tell me that the pillow was being used to smother someone, and that you didn’t prosecute someone for getting into a pillow fight?
I heard from a very knowledgable New York liberal, that if you fire a weapon with a collapsible stock, you can easily put out the sun.
Thanks for the interesting take on guns in N.Y. I have known some Easterners, and just couldn’t understand their disdain for guns.
DING DING DING We have a winner!!!!
“They really dont get them.:
Yeah, I don’t really get the whole freak-out thing with “weapons” either. I keep thinking about the time when my folks sent my brother and I back to Ohio in the 60’s on an airplane for a summer visit to the family farm. We were unaccompanied minors. My brother and I carried our .22 rifles on board, and the stewardess was really helpful in stowing the guns in the coat closet. I don’t think I was more than 14 at the time. The bullets were probably in the zipper pocket on the side of the gun case, but it was no problem.

Nope. You can go to Sports Authority and buy one. But, if you change the stock to folding, add a pistol grip, flash supressor and use a mag that holds more than ten it is.
The county focused on the two most popular shops, T&T and Colisseum. I buy from both.
Not during the summer.
That’d take all day...
So it’s come to this: New York’s effing Leftist PC Gestapo is railroading ordinary citizens in violation of the Second Amendment - and there’s no public outcry?
The Founders are weeping in heaven.
How did you get that picture of me? Now I have to go deep underground!!
I didn't know I had a twin! Brother!
We failed to protect those Rights and now we are losing them.
YEEEEEOOOOWWCHHH!! Gawd,...I hate that happens.
