Seriously, the reaction I had when I saw the headline was, “Maybe they want people to think of the movie and think, ‘well, Detroit could have turned out worse!’”

I’m not sure that the detroit of the movie was worse than the reality.

Oh, come ON!

First off, there is no way Detroit is going to want a statue of something with that level of violence representing its city. They’d need something with far more violence to be representative. Maybe a statue of Pol Pot would do. It’d certainly be more indicative of the actual governance of the city, too.

Second off, no way does a movie in which Red Forman dies deserve commemoration.

Third, the only way most honest, hard-working people would visit anything in Detroit is if RoboCop was escorting them for protection, gun drawn. So no one but thieves, hookers, dealers and city employees—sorry, I repeated myself—would ever get to see it.

“Really stupid...This statue would only pay homage to a dumb-assed movie cyborg. Just a really dumb idea and how it would add one iota of cultural value to Detroit, I have no idea!”

Have you been to Detroit recently? Anything new that can’t be easily stolen would add at least tangible, if not cultural, value to Detroit. Additionally, considered from the standpoint of the cultural rubric most Detroit residents fit into, the RoboCop value set would probably be a step up.

That wouldn’t make it any less stupid. Stupid isn’t good enough. Aim a little higher for a change. Have some class, Detroit...GEEZ!
