BILLINGS, Mont. Defying federal authority over gray wolves, Montana Gov. Brian Schweitzer on Wednesday encouraged ranchers to kill wolves that prey on their livestock -- even in areas where that is not currently allowed -- and said the state would start shooting packs that hurt elk herds.
Schweitzer told the Associated Press he no longer would wait for federal officials to resolve the tangle of lawsuits over wolves, which has kept the animals on the endangered species list for a decade since recovery goals were first met.
"We will take action in Montana on our own," he said. "We've had it with Washington, D.C., with Congress just yipping about it, with [the Department of the] Interior just vacillating about it."

I know you probably don't believe THEY actually believe that. It's politburo talking points only for sale to the unwashed who don't know any better, and could care less, that LIVE in the urban population centers. And many of 'em vote; whether they vote or not. ;^)
Is this rat governor up for reelection?
A minor quibble: I believe they know exactly what they're doing and it has nothing to do with "freedom and justice for all".
You know, I think that also but... Seems like the courts are way too Federalist in their decisions disregarding the rights of the States. I really am beginning to believe that if the higher courts continue to ignore the Constitution and States rights, there just might be an uprising...
Central Park in Manhattan use to also be the residence of such predators, lets put a pack of wolves and a few puma in Central part...it would also cut down on the criminal activity in the park...
I agree. We might “Go Egypt”.
Heh... While the immediate outcome might be positive, I would think the the result would be too drastic. No more park walks etc...
Yup, the GOP is the fGOP. F means “formerly,’ of course...
I would be surprised if the DNR was protecting wolves like these that are causing the trouble in Montana, Idaho and Wyoming. They are Canadian grey wolves, and they are big, vicious and have bred to the point of destroying livestock and populations of game animals.
They gotta go.
Yes, and it just might be much more likely than you think! Seems that both the Congress and the Courts are antagonistic toward the public these days...
If they continue, they will see the wrath of the people...after all, in our system, the people are in charge.
Hmm, actually that is true of almost every country - it just takes enough ignorance of the elitists (or Dictators) in charge to trigger a revolt.
Not sure that they will see it coming either...they tend to discard minor revolts - Tea Party...

I agree with every word. They’re arrogant and underestimating the American Spirit.
I’m no fan of Schweitzer but I am glad he feels that way about the wolves. You probably won’t believe me when I say that a few weeks ago there was a pack in my small Montana town chasing down a deer...in town...in the neighbor’s yard. I fully expect to see packs roaming our small town soon.
Well, I mean...seeing packs roaming our small town more frequently. This incident I mentioned above is the first we have heard about here in town but I suspect it will happen more frequently. Makes me rethink going for walks in the woods.
Wow! That in itself speaks volumes. If these wolves had plenty of room to roam and plenty of prey there's no way they sould be spending ANY time around people. Gotta wonder if there's not something else about the cross breeds that will bring them into towns. Mighty bold behavior when their instincts should be to avoid humans.
Brother, so have I. Thus, the tagline.
More Governors need to stand up to the Fed... Especially the EPA.

Are they perfect? Hail, no. But they aren't just lying down and taking it. I think a lot of the states between the Mississippi River and the Sierra Nevadas are mad as hell about Washington overreach and are fighting back in various ways. Nice to see a few renegade Democrats are too.
David Letterman owns a large ranch in Montana West of Great Falls somewhere.
