The Obama administration is stepping up its criticism of the Bahraini government, as anti-regime protests in the U.S.-allied Persian Gulf nation entered their third day on Wednesday.
“What the president believes … is that Bahrain, like all the countries in the region, needs to respect the universal rights of its citizens, their right to protest, their right to have their grievances heard,” White House press secretary Jay Carney said Wednesday.
“They should refrain from violence on both sides,” he said. “We are obviously watching events from Bahrain and around the region very closely.”
Protests in Bahrain, which hosts the U.S. Navy‘s 5th fleet, began Monday, and two protesters have since been killed by security forces.
Opposition figures previously had been critical of the Obama administration‘s failure to speak more forcefully about abuses by Bahrain‘s regime.

For a guy who mocked and dismissed the Tea Parties and massive anti-Obamacare protests, “hearing grievances” apparently doesn’t apply to Zero.
The Bahrain protestors are a bunch of disgruntled Shia in opposition to the ruling Sunnis. It’s an ancient gripe. All in all, Bahrain is a great place to be, if you have to be in the Middle East and it’s critically important to the US.
He needs to stand up for American interests or get the hell out of the White House.

The media has long been an arm of the Democratic Party. I’ve known it for years, and Brent Bozell and the Media Rearch Center (now Newsbusters) served a great purpose in educating people like me about it.
The problem is that many people are too busy or lack the intellectual curiosity to find out the full story. I still get my local news rag, the Oregonian, mainly for the sports, but it is basically nothing more than a mouthpiece for the liberal agenda at this point in terms of ‘news’.
Funny how he doesn't seem concerned about the rights of U.S. CITIZENS. He's too distracted with his Magical Mystery Tour apologizing to the scum of the earth.
