Israel is monitoring two Iranian warships about to pass through the Suez Canal for Syria and warn they might act.
Israeli's Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman says that "Israel cannot ignore these provocations," according to ynetnews.com.
"Unfortunately, the international community is not ready to deal with Iran's repeated provocations," Lieberman said, according to the Jerusalem Post.
Lieberman added that the warships was "a provocation that proves Iran's nerve and self-esteem is growing from day to day."
Iran announced plans to deploy warships near Israel and dock at a Syrian port for a year, IsraelNationalNews.com reports.
A senior Israeli official tells the site that "Israel will know how to deal with it."

The IDF should consider this: If Iran has developed a nuclear device, they probably haven’t sufficiently weaponized it yet to fit onto one of their Scud-based missiles. Such a prototype nuclear bomb is simply too large this early in the development process to fit into a 880mm missile. Thus the perfect way to deliver such an oversized bomb is with a ship.
There comes a point when action is necessary, if this is allowed a flood of weapons and military buildup will occur..
Just stop them andd turn them back, if fired on sink them...
But Israel knows what is coming and sooner works better than later for Israel.
“wouldnt the Suez Canal be blocked”
Depends on the method of sinkage....may be not enough large pieces left to block shipping lanes.
The Iranian plan COULD be to scuttle the ships in the canal, thus closing it.

Oh Geez, Wait till we get the MSM in place over there. /s
Not only that, but who is to say that the Iranians don’t have one or more weapons smuggled out of the Soviet Union as it was collapsing...
Just because their own home-grown nuke-building efforts are still at a relatively primitive stage does not mean that they haven’t acquired more advanced technology and/or materials from other sources.
My guess, though, is that this is more likely to be a conventional arms (and troops) supply mission to Syria and onward to Hezbollah. If they were to ship such material via conventional freighters, the materials would be subject to interception and confiscation. If, however, they ship them via Iranian warships they may believe that the materials are immune from seizure.
They may also attempt a bit of grandstanding, such as a breach of the blockade of Gaza, or other types of direct confrontations with Israeli naval forces.
It might be funny to see them get jacked by Somali pirates!
Donning my tinfoil hat:
Imagine an Iranian ship moving throgh the canal. Suddenly, a massive explosion! At precisely the worst location, the ship sinks. Passage through the canal is disrupted! Oil prices skyrocket.
If Iran scuttled their own ship, and blamed an Israeli submarine, they could probably get a lot of bang for the buck.
I can understand the provocation here, but can’t the Iranians also travel around through Gibralter pass and dock at Syria just the same? Long way around, but the same end result?
Other than trying to goad the Israelis into sinking their boats in the canal, is there anything else they can possibly do?
Well they have a choice, act now or wait for the onslaught.
Pre-emptive strike is the only rational response.
“I think this is just a poke in the eye

I think that is prolly correct. But the “counter poke” from Israel might just set things rolling on a path that leads to
somebody losing his cool.
Why now?
I think this is to distract the general population in Iran from the domestic unrest. Focus them on big bad Isreal.
The Iranians WANT Israel to hit those ships so
Mahmood Imadickwad can claim that Israel is the real enemy of the Iranian people, not their government.
Imadickwad must be VERY worried about the protests. He should be. I think the Republican Guard might just give him to the protesters as a sacrificial lamb if they get too close to toppling the whole government.
Very good point,,,
It should be interesting to see how close those ships come
to Israel...
“Not only that, but who is to say that the Iranians dont have one or more weapons smuggled out of the Soviet Union as it was collapsing...”
The Iranians are Russian puppets, and this is widely acknowledged.
You think the Iranians came up with this move? This is a Russian suggestion. China and Russia will both be looking on.
They might come VERY close. See post #53.
I saw on another thread that the Iranian navy has not gone through the canal in many years. I'm not sure why -- Egypt might have banned them, but this is not at all definite.
But, a week or so after the "democratic revolt" in Egypt, for the terrorist-sponsoring regime in Iran to suddenly send its navy through the canal is quite a statement. Loud and clear:
Things have changed in the Middle East.
What's new?
Israel will not consult us or ask for our blessing. They have written off the Muslim-In-Chief as an enemy of Israel.
This only INCREASES the likelihood that lead will fly.
Perhaps they feel it is God’s will to be forced into the conflict and are willing to take the first strike, but they know it will come and when it comes it will be optimum time for the enemy,,perhaps a matter of faith...
Else it would seem crazy not to act..
