CBS News' Lara Logan Sexually Assaulted During Egypt Protests
CBS ^

On Friday February 11, the day Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak stepped down, CBS correspondent Lara Logan was covering the jubilation in Tahrir Square for a 60 MINUTES story when she and her team and their security were surrounded by a dangerous element amidst the celebration. It was a mob of more than 200 people whipped into frenzy.

In the crush of the mob, she was separated from her crew. She was surrounded and suffered a brutal and sustained sexual assault and beating before being saved by a group of women and an estimated 20 Egyptian soldiers. She reconnected with the CBS team, returned to her hotel and returned to the United States on the first flight the next morning. She is currently in the hospital recovering.

There will be no further comment from CBS News and Correspondent Logan and her family respectfully request privacy at this time.

[begin op comment]

Knew something was going on when she was not on air from here in US after returning to CONUS.

This rumor has been working for a few days, and was all but confirmed by the lack of comment or denials from anyone at Black Rock or West 57th.

Some may say Logan has a checkered past, but nothing deserves this!

When 3 CBS engineers were killed by a perp years ago, Rather went into a (well deserved) on-air outrage. This time, there will probably be nothing, because, Lord knows, we don’t want to upset the “Arab Street.” Source with many years in SWA says many Muslims will approve of this, because, it was an infidel getting what she deserved.

When will the rest of America wake up?

I see. A young attractive woman deserves to be gang-raped by a mindless, rabid mob of America-hating Islamists because of what she wears on television. Your mindset fits rather well with fundamental Islam.

Five days have gone by! CBS should have reported this immediately as a warning for other female correspondents in Egypt. Prayers for Miss Logan.

Not always. If you google it, you can find the article by the journalist who was raped by Haitians and she blamed it on white colonialism.

Unfortunately she probably never suspected there was any danger. She’s young enough that she probably got the standard liberal education on the American oppression of the world.

Of course not. BTW, remember how quickly the news outlets made their joint determination to stop showing the planes flying into the Twin Towers?
The same day, wasn't it?

That's outrageous if you believe that! Seek help immediately!

I think we can eliminate Anderson Cooper as a suspect.

She must have been terrified in a way that only someone in that situation would understand. She’ll have nightmares for the rest of her life.

Without even looking at the prior post, I’m sure that was sarcasm.

Worse yet, given the liberal view of the world, she would think she deserved it because of the way America has oppressed everyone.

She doesn’t sound American. Is she or were they just presuming it?

Much as that guy claimed he hated Americans and her, he did seem concerned with getting her out of there before she got hurt. I was a bit surprised.

She is a reporter doing her job knowing the risks of covering war and revolution. It makes no difference whether it was a man or a woman. It is unfortunate what happened to her, but the reality is that this is part of the job. She is lucky she wasn't killed.

What I find interesting is that the MSM did not report it right away--more than likely because the people who did it were the Mubarak opponents. The story did not fit the narrative the MSM has been giving us, i.e., the happy people in the streets were peaceful and wanted freedom and democracy. All one had to do when looking at the pictures was to see that there were not that many women in the crowds and almost all had the hajib on. The MB is playing a role in all of this.

Will this have any effect on CBS’ version of events, or will they still portray her assailants as democracy loving heroes?

These people are savages and CBS and this reporter should’ve known better

"These people" are true believers. They do not know better.

I don't think the OP (Revolting Cat, living up to his username) was being sarcastic when he posted: "This babe sells her T&A on telebision. Now reality intervenes! Oops!", which is what I was responding to. He left off the rest of my response to him, saying "Your mindset fits rather well with fundamental Islam".

Im dissapointed at the light hearted remarks being made here.

There's a significant level of frustration that expresses itself as humor. The press attacked the Tea Party. Nancy Pelosi, Barney Frank, and others walked through a Tea Party rally with her carrying that big gavel, hoping and praying for someone to say something they could use to discredit the Tea Party. When no one did, they tried to make up a story about hearing racial slurs.

In Egypt, this woman is kidnapped and raped, and the press sits on it, then when they finally admit it happened, they minimize the role of the Egyptian military by saying she was rescued by some women, oh, and twenty members of the Egyptian military.

The truth is that the majority of the Egyptians want to wipe out the Christians in Egypt and declare war on Israel. The truth in Egypt is the same truth as in many third world countries that a woman who is out and not protected is very likely to be gang raped. I'm glad she survived and prayers for her recovery.
