CBS News' Lara Logan Sexually Assaulted During Egypt Protests
CBS ^

On Friday February 11, the day Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak stepped down, CBS correspondent Lara Logan was covering the jubilation in Tahrir Square for a 60 MINUTES story when she and her team and their security were surrounded by a dangerous element amidst the celebration. It was a mob of more than 200 people whipped into frenzy.

In the crush of the mob, she was separated from her crew. She was surrounded and suffered a brutal and sustained sexual assault and beating before being saved by a group of women and an estimated 20 Egyptian soldiers. She reconnected with the CBS team, returned to her hotel and returned to the United States on the first flight the next morning. She is currently in the hospital recovering.

There will be no further comment from CBS News and Correspondent Logan and her family respectfully request privacy at this time.

[begin op comment]

Knew something was going on when she was not on air from here in US after returning to CONUS.

This rumor has been working for a few days, and was all but confirmed by the lack of comment or denials from anyone at Black Rock or West 57th.

Some may say Logan has a checkered past, but nothing deserves this!

When 3 CBS engineers were killed by a perp years ago, Rather went into a (well deserved) on-air outrage. This time, there will probably be nothing, because, Lord knows, we don’t want to upset the “Arab Street.” Source with many years in SWA says many Muslims will approve of this, because, it was an infidel getting what she deserved.

When will the rest of America wake up?

Can’t help but think of the look of terror on Katie’s face when they tried to put her in with the protest mob early on. She did one take where she was pushed and jostled and knocked around and they got her out of there quick. The fear in Katie’s eyes was disturbing. She realized she had crossed the line.

“Why focus on the poor woman instead of the murderous thugs that assaulted her?”

Because it irritates me when people do something stupid and then bad things happen to them and everyone feels sorry for them. This woman did something stupid, bad things happened to her, and everyone here feels sorry for her. It’s kind of like those two guys that got mauled by a Tiger at the San Fran zoo after throwing stones at it, do I feel sorry for them? Nope. So why should I feel sorry for her? She put herself in a situation where she knew other reporters had the crap beat out of them yet she went in anyway. Stupid, especially when you consider that there are extra things they can do to a woman (although now a days as a man you might have to worry about those as well).

In either case, she’s alive and I don’t think this will have too much of an impact on her. She’ll be back out reporting in war zones in no time. Why? Because she’s a liberal and they never seem to learn from they’re mistakes.

Somebody could read a lot of the posts in this thread and wonder why this board made such a big deal over Juanita Broderick. It may have been a really stupid thing to roam into that crowd to try to get a story, but in no way does that make a 20 - 30 minute sexual assault and beat down “something she had coming because she is liberal”. I think it very fair to say that you are essentially excusing the attackers, much like we accuse the lib media of looking the other way when non Christian groups do bad thing, if you put most of the blame for this brutal attack on her.

Born in south africa this woman is about as American as Odumbo but she claims that title by marriage to a citizen. I am convinced she is also like the Zero a hater of what we love about America and she is an Enemy of the Republic. If witholding sympathy for such, for foreign and traitorous persons makes me worthy of banning then ban me now as I perceive we are divided by thus debate.

Is this the weakness that continually causes the Right to lose ground inch by inch to the Rats. They have no compunction to withdraw or ask fealty when in power and smite us with all their hate. How would our revolutionary forefathers acted in our times knowing good and evil by its fruit. We are in times of War like as not and I do recognize it to be so.

No aid to the Enemy do I give in word or deed till the the battle be ours and then we will little fear them.

folks here hand wring over percieved racism and all the cute stuff but then turn around make light of a woman gang raped

Amen.

"But she should have known better." "But she has a past." "But she was stupid." "But she's a dumb lib." "But she was a pretty blonde." No "buts" here. A woman was assaulted. Nothing funny about it. Rape is NEVER deserved.

Saying that she is also somewhat responsible is NOT giving the attackers a pass for their behavior. Just like Juanita Broderick bares some responsibility for going into some guys (Clinton in this case) hotel room alone. I’m amazed at the number of people that do the white knight thing the minute some woman gets raped but don’t seem to see how utterly stupid they were and what part they played in the whole crime. I have no sympathy for such “victims” as they are the architect of their own demise.

Also remember that up until the 17th-18th century rape was part of war and conquest and considered part of the fringe benefits of being a soldier (hell look at what the Russians did to the Germans after WWII for a more recent example). The middle-east still lives in that reality and still view raping the enemies women as part of the fringe benefits of conquest. Any modern woman from the west that’s been around the middle east as long as she has should know that so she gets no sympathy from me.

Speaking of beautiful people
this article says sexual abuse is common on the streets of Cairo

Sexual harassment of women is an all-too-common occurrence on the streets of Cairo. But many women noted a complete absence of it in the early days of protests in Tahrir Square, where demonstrators made a point of trying to create a microcosm of the society without many of Egypt’s social ills.

It's obvious you have no sympathy from your various posts. No human being should be treated like this. She deserves a lot of sympathy.....she will never be the same.

Now she’s a muslim—that is amuslim core belief- that when infidel females (male too?) are raped they becomes muslim.
When the Turks were committing genocide in Asia Minor that is what they would do.

Wait until the Muslims feel more empowered ...

Yes—Before the invasion of muslim arabs in 639AD.

In an unfortunately fantasy world, CBS would analyze any videos of this attack, identify the animals involved, hire mercenaries, and have each one of them killed. In the real world, the liberal media will deemphasize this gang rape because it does not fit their narrative of a peaceful enlightened revolt against a tyrannical dictator. When the Muslim Brotherhood comes to power with all the ultimate subjugation of women that comes with it, the leftist media will hail the democratic election of the oppressor.

Did any body express sympathy for the men reporters that got beat up by the same crowd? Nope. Will they never be the same either.

Napoleon got his start clearing the mobs from the streets of Paris. He was an artillery officer, and grapeshot is extremely effective at crowd control and dispersal.

man...too many of the little boys here and old cat ladies are behaving like absolute asshats with their cute comments over this poor. woman

Agreed.

No woman 'deserves' to be beaten and raped, at any time or any place, ever.

Regardless of her politics, whether her presence there was the result of ambition or stupidity, be it hers or someone else's, she did not 'deserve' this.

I hope she recovers as quickly and fully as possible.

In the meantime, others here would do well to consider that every woman is someone's daughter/mom/wife/grandchild and think about how they would think of the incident if she were theirs.

The true face of Islam has been exposed, and people here are blaming the victim.

You may be right. This report is now saying she was not raped. Lara Logan expected to leave hospital today .....which makes one wonder what was meant by "a brutal and sustained sexual assault and beating" ....in the midst of a frenzied crowd of over 200....one that went on for 20-30 minutes. NYPost
