Boehner: If some federal workers lose jobs because of GOP cuts, 'so be it'

Washington (CNN) - House Speaker John Boehner said Tuesday if some federal workers lose jobs because of Republican-proposed spending cuts, "so be it." But House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi was quick to say "not so be it."

"Over the last two years since President Obama has taken office, the federal government has added 200,000 new federal jobs and if some of those jobs are lost in this, so be it," Boehner said during a news conference with reporters at the Republican National Committee. "We're broke! It's time for us to get serious about how we're spending the nation's money."

Boehner, who was joined by other House Republican leaders, criticized the President's budget proposal for not cutting enough and said Republicans would address entitlement reform when they release their budget blueprint this spring.

"Republicans will not punt," said Boehner. "Everything's on the table. We will put forward a budget that deals with the big challenges that face our country…I have no doubts that all of these issues [Social Security and Medicare] will be on the table."

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi seized on Boehner's comments in a speech on the floor, saying Republicans' proposed cuts would leave many in the cold.

50% of the government workforce is on welfare. They just show up at a federal building a few days a week to keep collecting it. 25% should have been eliminated long ago due to technology(outside of government, very few people have secretaries or assistants anymore) and the last 25% are damn fine people who do the other 75% of the work anyway.

With 1.9 million civilian workers (including DOD civilians) and 1.4 million uniformed personnel, the federal government is the largest single employer in the United States (Source: White House 2008 budget numbers and OSD).

The direct cost of those 1.9 million civilian workers is a drop in the bucket compared to the gazillions of dollars some of them give away for every commie program under the sun.

Get rid of the agencies, then the employees will be a non-issue, and many gazillions of dollars will not be given to commies, and their programs, and their research grants, and their disgusting art, and their propaganda outlets, and their environmentalist insanity, and on and on and on.

We’re talking about the entire Federal government- not simply the military.

I didn't mention the military.

“Think they vote Dem when WORKING for the gov’t?
What do you think they’ll do when they’re UNEMPLOYED?”

—The real way to do it is to make them fight amongst themselves. You tell them their funding pie is going to be a lot smaller, and they get two choices: either they collectively take smaller pieces, or they keep the same size piece...but have to lay off more of their colleagues. I’m guessing their greed will lead to the latter choice- and a win for the right.

Personally, I’m just about tired of these traditional GOP asshole establishment appeasers ‘acting’ tough. They CAVE whenever the going gets tough. How about this asshole lose his job in the next primary along with any other sumbitch that backs down on annihilating Obama’s agenda completely. I don’t care if they win; I care that they honestly try. We’ve had enough of words and action that doesn’t match the words.

Certainly throw in things like NPR and NEA. We’re trillions in debt and there is absolutely no justification for spending taxpayer funds on things like “Piss Christ” and vagina art. The people who want that kind of crap should pay for it themselves.

I wonder what percentage of Federal employees vote democrat?

White collar are probably over 85%. Blue collar are probably less than 25%.

They’ll just get rid of the disabled vets from Iraq and Afghanistan. I am sure that FREEPERS will be fine with it. That is who got the jobs in the last two years.....pat yourselves on the back.

I’m at the point where I’m an experienced former Edsel,Corvair, Pinto, Vega, Gremlin et al owner who has walked into a showroom and meets up with a salesman with slick-backed hair trying to sell me a goddam Volt. I just don’t believe their words any more. Show me the ACTION!

Our county government has had to lay off a quarter of its General Fund positions. How can the federal government justify expanding its uncontitutionally authorized bureaucracy when local governments are having difficulty keeping cops on the streets and libraries open? How can the Administration and federal government justify taking more from the few remaining taxpayers’ pockets to fund more of a system that produces nothing for the economy and, in fact, removes money from the economy that could be used for main street investment and innovation?

If you eliminate whole departments you avoid this problem.
Start with Education, Energy, Commerce and Interior.

He could have pointed out that others lost private sector jobs so Obama could inflate the government.
And that any losses in government employment will be more than offset by gains in non-government employment.

Yep. Or that thousands of people have lost jobs in the oil industry because of a fictional “experts’ report” cooked up by the administration. Nobody on the left shed any tears for them when that happened.
