SWANZEY, N.H. -- A 7-year-old Siberian husky was shot in the leg Thursday night while his owner was working inside his garage.

"I heard a loud bang and then I heard Dozer whining. I said to my son, 'Somebody's shooting at Dozer,'" said Philip Sherrick, Sr.

Sherrick went outside and saw the armed man standing in his driveway who said, "It's just pellets," and walked away, Sherrick said.

Sherrick called police and drove Dozer to the vet hospital, where he had emergency surgery to amputate his right rear leg at the hip.

Police recovered the shell casings from the rifle and are now trying to determine to whom the gun belongs.

Sherrick said he believes he knows who shot his dog, but he doesn't know why.

Dozer is well-known among the neighbors on Marcy Hill Road who said sometimes Dozer wanders when he gets off his tie out. The staff at the Citgo station in town were horrified when they heard that Dozer was shot and sent him a get well card.

If he had a problem with Dozer wandering, and if he was a man about it, he could have voiced his concern....you know, like in a free society.

Dog asleep in his dog house, someone stands in driveway with gun and shoots into doghouse??

the perp did not shoot the dog as he defecated in said perps yard, he himself invaded someone elses property and started shooting....????

are you saying its OK because the dog was crapping in the perps yard, to trespass and open fire next to someone elses house at a sleeping dog???

I would have put down the perp....with extreme prejudice

When seconds count, the police are only minutes away.

I do not understand why they called the police. They can do nothing except protect the shooter from retribution.

You shoot my frikin dog while it is sleeping in his house in my yard...?

At a later date, when all is forgotten, I will smash your kneecap off with a bat. Got a problem with such retribution, you get shot in the leg too.. Then I smash your knee while yer squealing like my pup.

This is one reason they invented the ski mask and the concept of random crime.

These stories piss me off.

Read real slow, I said the dog had a sorry, worthless, bag of crap, for an owner. And then I said why the guy did it. Period, but he should have ran over him in the street, would have been less of a problem.

Husky’s generally don’t crap in other peoples yard. They need a lot of exercise and will run if they get off the leash.

Going into someone elses yard to shoot their dog is criminal. The guy didn’t have enough integrity to own up to it and instead claimed “they’re just pellets”.

To bad he didnt shoot you in the leg org.

If you came into my yard armed and shooting, you best be wearing lots of Kevlar.

"It's just pellets," and walked away

The correct response to this action should be "It's just lead," and walk away.

I wasn’t asking if the cops were nearby to catch who might have shot the dog.

Many freepers have the viewpoint that some cops like shooting dogs.

A dog was shot, so I was wondering if there was a cop in the area at the time?

I never heard that one...dad was a Marine, then a cop in Ft Apache in the Bronx..the 41st pct...nasty neighborhood at the time....one day he saw a hot dog push cart lady being harassed by an emaciated but large german shepherd that someone obviously never fed...he placed himself between the lady and the dog, the dog knocked him over, he broke his fall with his right hands and broke his wrist in the process....I would take a heck of a lot for Dad to pull his Model 10 S&W on a Dog, he loved them, God rest his soul.
