Really doesn't matter, this store manager like so many others before him will discover that enlisting comes first ~ then something else ~ then, his store, or his beliefs are way down at the bottom of the list.

I say PROSECUTE HIM ~ every now and then we need an example for the others!

My goodness, I enlisted and the guys at work gave me a big party and a bunch of WWII and Korean War vets took me over to the National Press Club for more partying.

When I came back those same vets saw to it my hold baggage got shipped to my desk ~ lest it be lost somewhere in a post office somewhere.

They said Perthius was fired because he never informed the store manager he needed the time off and that he didn’t follow store policy for requesting time off.

Doesn’t seem like he will be good for the military anyway. If he does this in the military, he will find worse results than getting fired.

Sounds like the military is just what this kid needs. They will take this irresponsible kid and turn him into a respectable, responsible adult in short order. Or else he will be spending a lot of time in the brig.

Reading through the thread, I see that once again several have jerked knees and made unwarranted assumptions before reading the entire story.

Store says Marine teen fired for missing work during swear-in

Let me edit that to be correct:

Perhaps the Corps will cure him of being a little whiny crybaby.

I was working in a grocery store when I enlisted back in ‘63. I gave a two week notice before shipping off to boot camp. The manager cut my normal 30 hrs/wk to 4hrs/wk.
Strange how that incident is stuck in my mind.
