In the state of Kansas, to carry a concealed firearm you need a gun preferably something that fits nice under your jacket, in your pocket or perhaps in your purse.
You also need a license, the states seal of approval that you can hide a firearm on your person.
Whats less clear is whether you need eyesight. It certainly is suggested, unquestionably helpful. But following a change in state law, it is no longer clear whether it is required.
Kansas legislators during the last session approved a number of changes to the states concealed carry law. One of them was that people who are renewing their license no longer have to take any sort of test to prove theyre still proficient with a firearm.
The changes also removed language from the law that gave the attorney general the right to deny applicants a license if they suffer from a physical infirmity which prevents the safe handling of a weapon.
A spokesman for Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt whose office oversees the concealed carry program conceded this week that the office is uncertain whether it has the authority to deny a concealed carry license renewal for any physical reason, even if the applicant is blind.

LOL, you noticed that.
That.s what it will be called if the hundreds of blind get shooting their guns.
not the deaf and blind but the death and blind
I wonder if they will have handicapped ramps on the trains that whisk us all away in the not so distant future?
Besides, you know those are just evil little inanimate objects just sitting around awaiting their opportunities to jump out, go off, and shoot innocent bystanders!
My favorite is at my gym. There’s a sign on the wall that says no males over 3 allowed in the woman’s locker room and then under that it’s in braile. Think about it.
What on the new obama high speed train which cost the tax payers billions, no one used it so the Govt thought of whisking us all away because Govt health care said we’re getting too old unless you’re an elitist DC champagne socialist .
It ‘s like the loons have taken over the asylum.
Blind midgets! Sneaky little bastards, ya know?
Actually...I really liked this part better...I LOL’ed for real...my mind was imagining blind zombies driving around looking for an ATM.
“so obviously I see many death and blind every day in town”
I’m sorry for teasing you...my sense of humor matures after coffee...and I have not yet turned on my coffee machine. :)
So what if the law doesn’t codify what nature does? Should we pass a law saying dead people can’t breathe? Unless there’s shown to be a rush of blind people shooting people, where’s the problem here?
The loons have indeed taken over...
Think about it from the woman’s point of view, a 300 lb naked blind guy bent over drying his feet is not something they may want to see either.
prepare for the worst, and pray you don’t need to use the skills...a good plan. I’d be proud to target shoot with you, even sans glasses. :)
I hear that there is a radio host who is all-but-deaf. Amazing. He has 'worked around his limitations'. And when his run is complete, he will have transcripts of the most popular radio show ever - an amazing resource.
Chad LawhornVery cute 'Chad' (how's it hanging anyway?)
Kansas law change may allow even blind to carry concealed
But there's 'Blind' and then there's 'Legally Blind'. And the two are not the same. But you prolly know that, huh 'Chad'. (you're not pregnant are you?)
A 'Legally Blind' person can drive with corrective lenses (Glasses for those in Rio Linda). So why should that person be denied the Right to defend himself, or family? At close range he'd be able to use a handgun just fine, especially one like 'The Judge'. At home he could use a Shotgun, which doesn't need much aiming. Pointing usually works just fine.
So..... Whatta ya think about that, 'Chad'? (btw, do you have dimples?)
'Chad' jokes now /off
I have an old friend who is 'legally blind' and can legally drive.
So you have to take classes before you're allowed to die? Or are they classes to learn to do a good job of being dead?
I don’t want to think too long about “death and blind school.”
Whether you are serious or not, this is exactly the response the media and the gun banners are looking for. And it is their strategy to use fear of silly exceptions to the rule like blind people with guns to destroy concealed carry.
Can someone pull up a photo of Ray Charles in “The Blues Brothers?”
