YAF National Board Expels Ron Paul From Advisory Board
The Washington Times ^ | Saturday, February 12, 2011 | Kerry Picket

Posted on 02/12/2011 6:18:30 PM PST by kristinn

Young Americans for Freedom (YAF) , a conservative libertarian group founded in 1960 at the estate of William F. Buckley, expelled Rep. Ron Paul, Texas Republican, from their advisory board on Saturday. The organization released the following statement on Saturday afternoon:

The National Board of Young Americans for Freedom (YAF)—America's oldest conservative-libertarian activist group—has, per curium, voted to purge Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX) from YAF’s National Advisory Board.

YAF’s concern with Rep. Paul stems from his delusional and disturbing alliance with the fringe Anti-War movement.

“It is a sad day in American history when a one-time conservative-libertarian stalwart has fallen more out of touch with America’s needs for national security than the current feeble and appeasing administration,” said YAF’s Senior National Director Jordan Marks.

“Who would have ever thought that we would see the day when YAF was more aligned with the Obama administration than a formerly conservative Republican congressman? Rep. Paul's refusal to support our nation’s military and national security interests border on treason, aside from his failure to uphold his oath to the United States Constitution and defend our country and citizens against all enemies, foreign and domestic,” Marks continued.

SNIP

YAF National Chairman Michael Jones issued the following statement on this issue:

SNIP “Freedom and prosperity cannot peacefully exist alongside radical Islam. It is unfortunate that Ron Paul--a member of the U.S. Congress-- does not understand this. Surely, our enemies do.”

3 times I have had to suffer MY rep. at my table. Even though he is very liberal I guess by your criteria my rep.(Earl Blumenauer)is a great guy because he drove himself to the restaurant to chat it up with people. I hope you make lots of money from that bridge you bought.

"Have any of the people posting ever sat across the table and talked to the Congressman representing your district? "

My Congressmen is Debbie Wassermann-Schultz (by about 120 yards). Before that, it was Jim Moran (by probably less than 2-300 yards). If either one sat down at my table, I would projectile vomit long before they could utter a word. Then, I'd probably carve my eyes out with the soup spoon, because what has been seen, may not be unseen.

I'm glad you enjoyed your chat with Ron. Some of us aren't as lucky in the jackpot of Congressional districting.

Sheesh. If someone gave you a million bucks, you would complain that it wasn’t a billion, I think.

Sheesh....if you weren't such a noob, you'd know FReepers have had these complaints about RP for years.

Buckley was a "conservative libertarian?"

They're still calling themselves the "Young Americans for Freedom" fifty years later?

. . they're tagging their figurehead, Buckley, as a "conservative libertarian."

I'm sorry but that's absurd. I don't care who you are.

But, but, but . .

WFB himself admitted to being a "libertarian journalist" on the cover of one of his many books.

He also wrote about toking up in the middle of the Atlantic (where he was out of reach of the DEA--at that time) which we all know is the only thing Libertarians care about, legalizing pot. Proof positive.

</sarc>

In retrospect, having been a subscriber for many years to National Review and often enjoying Buckley's "Notes and Asides" a bit more than the rest of his occasionally dull magazine, it would be quite a challenge to peg WFB on either the libertarian or conservative map, as his political compass wandered considerably over the years.

Most recently, just a year before his death, Buckley wrote a column that expressed his disillusionment with both the way the war in Iraq was being conducted and, to a degree, the Bush/Cheney rationale for the 2003 invasion. In the same article, he forecast a Republican defeat if things were not turned around. That was in 2007, and of course we know 0bama could not have known WFB's campaign advice since he doesn't read National Review

Like other members of wealthy east coast families, his elitism often distinguished his views from Middle America. Though a devout Catholic and fiercely anti-abortion, it was not beneath him to support a pro-choice Democrat (Lieberman) over a RINO (Weicker). That would not play in Peoria, or Pascagoula for that matter.

The final chapter hasn't been written on the Buckleys, and won't be until probably son Christopher begins drawing Social Security payments. I'd like to know, but won't live long enough.

You never heard of YAF? It at the very least has some renown, and I was a lib until 11 years ago. I think I heard of it either through Laura Ingraham or Ann Coulter.

Just wow. Hope they enjoy being "aligned with the Obama administration".

Uh- they have different members than 50 years ago. YMCA and YWCA were founded many decades ago, yet have kept the “Y” in their names (at least until they ditched the C).

Thas right Jack. Paul won the GAY vote at CPAC.He is officially now one of the "bend ovah boys!"

I am sure he is back in Texas, watching regular screenings of Broke Back Mountain, and whiping away the tears every few minutes, dreaming of fudge packer votes.
