Wouldn’t “Smart Contraction” be more accurate?
The only thing that can bring Detroit back is liberty. I’m not holding my breath.
Detroit passed the tipping point back in the Sixties. It’s too late to do anything but plow it back into the farmland from which it emerged a century ago.
Uh, Detroit is the RESULT of that policy.
I guess i should have added a barf warning or /sarc or something, this is a terrible joke.
It didn't give me goosebumps. Instead my inclination was to hurl when the spot came on.
smart growth=socialism
Nobody wants to admit that when technology allowed companies to operate from less urban areas (where they wouldn’t have to house, feed, and “educate” a large population of our permanent underclass with tax revenues), then the city model was doomed. Terms like “city cooling centers” (where ghetto people are supposed to go when it gets hot in the summer) duidn’t even exist ten years ago; now Nanny State will monitor your body temperature in addition to providing you with housing, food, etc.
As long as we don’t have these discussions, our cities will continue to rot while our government pretends they aren’t, and “normal” people will be indifferent while pretending to care.
Is this guy serious?
Or is this a joke?
Socialism is why Detroit is a hellhole.
More Socialism will make it WORST, not better...
Big government plus unionism equal Detroit. I defy any
liberal to rebut this.
Notice how the snappy little word “Smart” seems to accompany so many fraudulent programs of the Left.
Good idea. Redistribute reparations for Detroit to victims of earlier redistribution.
Do a Google search on “smart growth.” Note how many of the hits are government agencies. Including the EPA, of course.
If you have questions about Smart Growth, the Wikipedia article in the Google list is a pretty good source.
Smart Growth is a socialist’s dream come true. It incorporates compact neighborhoods (another term for people living on top of one another; kiss the suburbs goodbye), public transportation, sustainable development, climate protection, environmental protection, etc. Saul Alinksy is sitting up and paying attention!
Smart Growth has a lose connection to Agenda 21.
I lived in the city and suburbs all my life. When I retired I made the big change to rural life. Seven or so years into it, I say FU Smart Growth!
If the money and effort spent trying to resuscitate Detroit were to be spent on a vibrant city, where would the bigger gain come? I vote for Tulsa or Keokuk vs. Detroit.
Preposterous, laughable democrat party propaganda from the NY Times owned Boston Globe:
“Progressive” BS party line from people without the slightest clue (or desire) to create a single job.
“Smart Growth” ping.
“But Katz would broaden the lens to include a new economic plan for the whole nation. For too long, he says, Americas economic policy has focused on consumption, home ownership, and the financial industry.”
Wow. God forbid we have food, a home or a job.
It sends a shiver down my terrified spine that these Obama Regime monsters are in power.
Smart Growth is antithetical to human nature where most would prefer to live in a suburban or country setting. Be well aware your tax money is being spent to drag you into the cities.
