Minimum wage would go to $10 under Senate bill

SPRINGFIELD Senate Democrats proposed raising the states minimum wage Thursday in a bid that eventually would boost pay for the working poor to more than $10 an hour.
Sen. Kimberly Lightford (D-Maywood) introduced legislation that would raise Illinois $8.25-an-hour minimum wage by 50 cents plus the rate of inflation annually until it reaches its historic level.

If the proposal gains traction in the Legislature this spring, it would help offset the impact on low wage earners of the 67-percent increase in the individual income-tax rate that took effect in January.
There has rightfully been a lot of discussion lately about how to improve the states business climate. But as we go forward, I want to make sure that minimum wage workers arent ignored and forgotten, Lightford said in a prepared statement.
But her plan would shift additional costs onto Illinois businesses that just absorbed a 46 percent hike in corporate income taxes and give job-poaching GOP governors from outside Illinois another argument to convince businesses to relocate to their states.

Yep. Brilliant.
Complete Democrat control of Illinois, the best thing that ever happened to Wisconsin.
Pay of the newly non-working poor will drop to $0 per hour. And the prices paid by both the working and non-working will increase.
Well ... I’m sure this nice, but ... could they make it $20/hr? I got bills to pay ... [/s]

Whats wrong with thes a$$ clowns if $10 an hour is good $50 a hour must be better!/s Stuck on Stupid.
I live in Illinois and absolutely abhor the democrat party, but I cannot help but hope that these cretins succeed in their sick plans. It will help bring the demise of the democrat party to our nation. Between Illinois and California we have some great “test tubes” for the young and quite frankly older people to see how disastrous the democrat socialism is. Better a few states than the entire country...
There is another, even more sinister reason for all of this minumum wage crap...most union contracts are tied directly to the minimum wage...If the minimum wage goes up, according to their contracts, so do their wages.....just a little tidbit for digestion...
What if the output of a given worker isn’t worth $10/hr?
“What if the output of a given worker isnt worth $10/hr?”
I am shocked! Shocked, I tell you! The insensitivity of your post makes me dizzy... I need a latte.
Think of the children!
Should be called “The Illegal Alien Full Employment” Bill
Make it $40 and we've got a deal. Heck, it ain't my loot.
Won’t be long until there will be no place left to work in Illinois.
Making 10 dollars an hour is of no value if there are no employers.
Let’s really help the economy.....$20.00 bucks an hour for minimum wage and $75,000.00 per year in unemployment benefits...the RATS will never give in.
The “minimum wage” is supposed to represent some minimum amount of money someone can live on.
Since I can’t imagine living on $10 an hour either, why not make it $30/hr? Or $100? Or hell, just give everyone a million bucks!
Sheesh.
How about $1,000 per hour ?
