The high school basketball coach in Ohio accused by some players of using racist language has been relieved of his duties for the rest of the season, reported Fox 8.com. The superintendent said Jason Popp can return to the bench next year after he undergoes sensitivity training.
The state-ranked Richmond Heights team was threatening to boycott the rest of its undefeated season if their coach remained in place, Fox8.com reported. Tuesday night's game was postponed after Superintendent Linda Hardwick met with parents over the alleged abuse, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. A group of parents had sent a letter to Hardwick complaining Popp used "inappropriate language, as well as racial and economic harassment," according to the letter obtained by the paper. "Mr. Popp's reputation is at stake and the students -- I'm an advocate for children -- they must be treated fairly, if any of these allegations are true," Hardwick told Fox8.com.
The players feel the writing is already on the wall against Popp. "He was like, 'Well, you guys don't go out and play (expletive) basketball.' He was like, 'cause this is what they gonna expect y'all to do, play (expletive) basketball'," varsity player Jordan Early told the website. A meeting will be held Wednesday night at the district's board of education to determine Popp's future. Popp has denied the allegations.

Actually, I heard he called them niggardly because of their lack of discipline.
EXACTLY! ! !
That and football are a total waste, a distraction, and building blocks for contempt of academic excellence.
The big man on campus has the lowest IQ on campus.
“He said if I don’t get my grades up, I’m gonna be living back down on Superior. I thought it was a racist comment because if I was white, he wouldn’t have said nothing like that,” added Early.
Coach Accused of Racism When Telling Basic Truth
Coach told his BASKETBALL PLAYERS to play BASKETBALL.
Yeah, totally racist. (sarc)
Then it’s quite odd that the title of the article refers to ‘racist comments’ but none are found in the body of the article.
Richmond Heights fans, I think it would be a good thing if many of you would attend future games and exercise your freedom of speech. This crap is growing old.
It sure is....
“everybody ... are”???
I assumed it was “ghetto” basketball. That would get him in trouble. Big time.
No information in the stupid story.
Ah, didn’t think of that one either. However, is ‘ghetto’ considered an expletive?
I found in other sources that he used the N-word and other PC terms/phases. Despite all that, the team is undefeated? This kind thing kind makes you wonder what the team are complaining about. In addition, why did it took long to filed the compliant in the first place?
However, if the coach did in fact use that word, he may not be racist, but he is certainly an idiot.
Ghetto basketball is what I thought as well. And doesn’t that mean basically that you just run out and score—without thinking about setting up plays? The reason I say this is because my son plays on an inner city team and when he is a point guard (I know virtually nothing about basketball) he sets up plays. When another guy is point guard (I know there are two) they other guy just tries to score all the time. We call it ghetto ball. We are a mostly white team and all the point guards are white. I just go out and cheer.
It is if you substitute “n__ger” for “ghetto”.
I hope I’m wrong, but I think the word was “ghetto.”
Yes. They is.
They could just disband the team and focus on reading, writing, arithmetic, and the hard sciences.
