RATEPAYERS could be stung up to $45,000 to install curtains at a public pool so Muslim women can have privacy during a female-only exercise classes.
The City of Monash has won an exemption from equal opportunity laws to run the sessions outside normal opening hours.
The council says the privacy screen is needed for "cultural reasons".
It follows moves by other councils to introduce women-only sessions for the Muslim community, such as Greater Dandenong asking a tribunal to approve a ban on uncovered shoulders and thighs for those attending a family event at a pool.
Special exercise classes for women will be held at the Clayton Community Centre every second Sunday evening after VCAT gave the green light this week.
Ross Buscemi, director of refugee charity group the New Hope Foundation, said his organisation had lobbied for the sessions on behalf of Muslim women, mostly from African countries including Eritrea, Ethiopia and Sudan.

But this also means that any unusual costs involved should be borne by those who want these changes. Asking for us to accommodate their beliefs and then when we have decided to do so, trying to require us to spend thousands of dollars is just abusing our hospitality.
Either let them pay, or if their privacy is so important, they can go back where they came from and have their OWN pirvate swimming pool, providing the men will allow it. ONLY IN AMERICA, will the newcomers of a different culture demant a private swimming pool, yet in their own country, they didn’t have the courage to demand one for fear of their heads being chopped off. They make me very angry.

It seems to me that some enterprising muzzie could make a fortune opening a string of ‘culturally sensitive’ pool facilities for their fellow savages.
Isn't the COMMUNITY CENTER funded by taxpayers? If so, then where the hell are all the church and state cry babies? Clearly, this is a religious issue.

You know news like this just irks me to heck! I think the appropriate response is to demonstrate in protest in front of such places holding up signs with pictures on them of Islamic Oppression of women. What to put on those signs?
1. Pictures of Women being buried at the waist and stoned.
2. Pictures of women who have been “Honor Killed”
3. Pictures of the damage done by Female Genital Mutilation.
They (Radical Islam)are giving us all the photographic ammunition we need, we just need to have the guts to use it.

Yep.it is Australia.
We let them in! They could have mussie only sessions so that they don’t need to spend any extra money and if they don’t think that is good enough don’t swim in our pools. This comes from the state that voted in a Green Party member to the Lower House of Federal politics. Victoria is so far left it needs to be moved passed the Western Australian coast.
