Thugs working for Mexican drug cartels kidnapped the 12-year-old daughter of a ranch foreman in New Mexico, holding the girl for ransom until her family and neighbors came up with $80,000 for her release. They didn’t dare call law enforcement for help because of very real fears their calls would be monitored by the kidnappers using sophisticated communications relay stations erected on U.S. public lands.
That was one of the most shocking stories four congressmen heard last week while visiting hot spots along the New Mexico, Arizona and Texas border, where specific American law enforcement officers are being targeted for assassination and high levels of violence, vandalism and threats against Americans are increasingly common. One rancher showed the lawmakers a photo she had taken on her property of a camo-clad drug runner brandishing an AK-47.
“The town hall meeting we held with ranchers in New Mexico was very lively,” Rep. Ed Royce, R-Calif., told The Examiner. “The drug smugglers use scanners, cell phones, GPS systems and other equipment that is better than anything Border Patrol or the local deputy sheriffs have. We could actually see them watching our Border Patrol agents from points on high ground” in Mexico.
There were 900 attacks on Border Patrol agents last year, Royce said, and 91 assaults on Customs Agents in the Tucson sector alone. Narco traffickers have become so bold that they shot up a U.S. Customs station in the process of intercepting a big cocaine shipment.

It wouldn’t. The future costs of welfare fraud, unemployment of AMERICAN workers, and health care for illegal immigrants would more than pay for the wall.
You would need a 25 foot steel wall. You would need a 10X10’ wide and deep ditch for Border Patrol. You would need rows of high chain links with razor wire.
That might seem a lot, but I am sure that one family of illegal immigrants and the governmental costs involved for 10 years would pay for a good mile of that fence. We could build a fence to the moon.

Easy to understand, IF you realize that the 12 year old is heterosexual instead of lesbian, Christian instead of some whacko “faith”, comes from a two parent home where the parents are married in fact not just as a sham, and that poor family may well have an ex-military “potential terrorist” as either a member or a close friend.
See - wasn’t that easy?

Fair enough, but wouldn’t soldiers be a cheaper? Maybe we can have the CBO run the numbers :-)
The worst part of it is that our government REFUSES to protect our borders and our citizens.
Soldiers used in civilian roles is a possible violation of Posse Comitatus. Something like that may be done, but if A VERY LARGE WALL is constructed, the drug thugs will be forced to smuggle drugs and drugs will become much less profitable.
If you take the unbelievable profit margins that the cheaply built border fence creates and turn it into a very-difficult-to-penetrate wall of steel, drug running suddenly becomes very expensive. You don’t only need a 4X4 to run drugs anymore.
The more pressure you apply to drugs, the more profit you make for the drug cartels.

If that is the case, then why aren’t the cartels building walls to keep themselves out of America?
Drug prices remain quite high even though supply is quite easy - simply follow designated routes through the desert on vehicles to a road side meeting and boom, job done. You only have to pay for gas. More product, less seizure, more profit.
I agree that the wall is necessary to keep illegals out. I also think that symbolically the wall being built will induce many illegals to return home.
We are, as they say, in violent agreement on that point. The question was whether there’s precedent. I only wish the current “leadership” would take this in hand.

I am not at all surprised and believe it is likely true. Shots being fired at a Port of Entry is not that unusual, and it is not unusual that it wouldn’t be widely reported either. Especially when Janet from another planet is saying the border is secure.
In Mexico, even if the ransom is paid, there is a better than even chance the victim still isn't returned alive, but is killed to protect the identities of the kidnappers.
The drug cartels are figuring it all out and are losing their fear of American law enforcement. There is going to be holy hell to pay for it for many Americans.

The kind of fence that we would need would be too expensive to put up along the whole border.
Foriegn invadors should be a military problem. What we need is soldiers with guns and a kill zone extending a mile into Mexico along the entire border.
The last time the Mexicans were bringing their criminality into the US, Black Jack Pershing marched 5000 soldiers around northern Mexico for a year.

I agree w/you. I think there should definitely be a kill zone. Step into the kill zone that will be WELL MARKED and they shoot first and ask questions later. Include your ID on your body because then we’ll know who to call to pick up the body.
Either that or build huge impenetrable prisons there on the border and treat them like they treat criminals in their jails. You only eat if your family brings food or if they pay for your food - same for showers and all the rest.
I’m fed up with making nice to people that want to kill us, kidnap us, sell drugs to our families etc.

Posse Comitatus is a bullshit feel-good ‘law’ that can be circumvented at virtually any time.
“The Congress shall have Power To [...] provide for calling forth the Militia to **execute the Laws of the Union**, suppress Insurrections and repel Invasions;
To provide for organizing, arming, and disciplining, the Militia, and for governing such Part of them as may be employed in the Service of the United States, reserving to the States respectively, the Appointment of the Officers, and the Authority of training the Militia according to the discipline prescribed by Congress”

The supreme executive power of the state shall be vested in the governor, who shall take care that the laws be faithfully executed.
