North Korea is going around the world seeking food aid, including from the United States, but apparently without much result, a Seoul daily reported Thursday, citing multiple sources. "Since the end of last year, North Korea has been asking the U.S., international organizations and almost every country it has diplomatic ties with, including nations in Europe and Southeast Asia, to assist it with food," an unidentified source told the JoongAng Daily.
A South Korean government source backed that up, telling the daily, "North Korea is asking the United States and European Union countries for free food aid while asking developing countries in regions like Southeast Asia for food that it promises to pay back later."
The requests started in the second half of last year, but have become frantic over the last two months, the source said, adding that as far as he knew, no country has responded to the request.
Citing a Washington source, the JoongAngIlbo said North Korea officially requested U.S. food aid on Jan. 14 in New York when Han Sang Ryol, its deputy ambassador to the United Nations, met with Robert King, the U.S. envoy on North Korea's human rights situation, who is currently visiting Seoul.
It said there is speculation that King's six-day visit to Seoul, which ends Friday, is related to that food request.
In an interview Wednesday with Yonhap News Agency in Seoul, King was quoted as saying that while no decision has been made on resuming food aid to North Korea, U.S. policy "is that when we provide assistance, humanitarian assistance, it is based on need and no political consideration should be involved."

Their military and the elits aren’t eating well either I hear....Kimbo’s afraid the people will riot...and there’s some news saying the people are determining o’Kimbo isn’t the greatest leader after all...they will not see starvation again as they did in the nineties...but it’s already begun.
Question is ...will he fire a Nuke again to make his point...feed his people or he’ll take out another countries people?
Every dollar given them in food aid is a dollar of their own money they can spend making mischief in the world.
N.Korea ‘Importing Animal Feed for Human Consumption’
North Korea is reportedly importing animal feed grain from China to distribute on the market for human consumption as the regime struggles with food shortages.
According to Radio Free Asia, Pyongyang gave the animal feed to its military as well as to merchants, bringing down the surging cost of rice.
A source in North Korea said the feed is commonly darker in color than normal rice and is often mixed with chaff and stones.
The U.S.-based broadcaster said lower prices caused by several natural disasters in China last year allowed the North to import a vast quantity of low-quality animal feed for its people to consume, stirring mixed responses from North Koreans.

My heart breaks for the North Korean people but if the world isn’t firm with North Korea’a tyrant rulers things will never get better.
But they have free medical care, an Internet Kill Switch, ownership of the means of production by the workers, and everything!
“
N. Korea scours world seeking food aid, approaches U.S.: report+
“
No different than the Soviet Union.
Learning how to parasitize the USA and other enlightened republics/democracies.
We should just be dropping parachute skids of food, M-16s, ammo along
with simple instructions to “kill the bastards that are starving you” at
about midnight.
It would all be over by noon. They’d kill most of the SOBs party/NK Army SOBs
by then.
OK, it’s probaby a fantasy...but it’s a beautiful revenge fantasy.
Of course, the Marxist in The Oval Office will never try such a thing.
He would not to offend his buddies in North Korea.
This is a bit like a rough chick threatening to bite your nose off, then turning on the charm and asking you to take her out to dinner.
Interesting that China isn’t feeding them. Oh, that’s right, 90% of China is undernourished too. Maybe Zimbabwe, Burma, Venezuela or Cuba can help out.
Send ‘em Food Stamps.
America is BROKE.
Why is that?
Reunify peacefully with the south and never worry about food again. What’s so freaking hard about that? It is ridiculous that these two are still divided AND OVER WHAT? the will of one man? We need to seriously step up the propaganda effort against the North. The North Korean people need to know that we don’t want to kill them, we want to peacefully reunite them with their families in the south and lead them into a new age of prosperity. We need to be disseminating AM/FM radios into North Korea by the millions.
I agree, but it is heartwretching knowing they are starving once again....here’s another report. Perhaps the people will find courage and finally revolt. You notice that even this feed is going to Kim’s army first and foremost.
“North Korea is disguising Chinese livestock feed into normal grain since late January, supplying them firstly to soldiers according to a source in Yanggang Province.
As the Chinese livestock feed, mixed of unripe rice and sand, is on the market in bulk at lower prices, the exchange rate of the North Korean currency and grain prices have dropped.
North Korean trade officials have been trying to exchange medicinal herb, scrap iron and ore for food, but Chinese merchants have rejected the nonpaying offer.
However, sweeping natural disasters increased bad crops not fit for sale, influencing China to sell the unripe rice to North Korea at a cheap price.
The North also requested that the animal picture, which shows that animal feed is contained, is removed from the sack, said another source from the province. You cant tell whether its for human or animals by looking at the cover.

Make the radios the hand crank ones...N. Korea has spotty electricity, and use the existing VOA budget. We are broke to the tune of $1.31 trillion per year.
Tell you whut.
Let us blow up a couple of things first and we’d be happy to feed you.
From amnesty international, and other Help agencies reports.
*widespread illness as thousands are forced to survive on so-called “wild foods” such as grass and tree bark, according to testimonies obtained by Amnesty International in a new report.
*as food shortages have intensified, the population has come to rely more on wild foods that have no nutritional value, simply to fend off hunger.....traditional wild foods can be poisonous and cause severe digestive problems. The UN has found that diarrhoea caused by wild foods is among the leading causes of malnutrition among children under 5.
* North Korean government actively encouraged the population to forage for alternative or wild foods instead, such as roots, grasses and stalks, promoting them as healthy and safe sources of nutrients. Since then, food rations have either been suspended.
*Another leading South Korean daily, Dong-A Ilbo, reported ethnic Koreans on the Chinese side of the border as saying there have been reports of starvation in Sinuiju, a North Korean border city that has typically fared well because of trade with China.
*There has also been rare CIVIL UNREST in the authoritarian state with North Koreans fighting security agents trying to stop people from smuggling or trading food, Daily NK, an online site run by activists, reported sources in North Korea as saying.
*Women under the age of 49 are not permitted to trade in North Korea, nor are any women allowed to ride bicycles, the means by which they might travel to a place of work, or wear trousers.
*Criticizing what he calls the “exploitation of the ordinary people” by a “ruling elite” which considers that exploitation to be its prerogative, a “pernicious prerogative” is how it is described, Mr Muntarbhorn said:
The human rights situation in the country remains abysmal owing to the repressive nature of the power base: at once cloistered, controlled and callous. While many members of the population are in abject poverty and suffer the prolonged deprivations linked with shortage of food and other necessities,...... the country itself is endowed with vast mineral resources controlled by the authorities
The problem with reunification is many S. Koreans don’t want it. They’ve become accustomed to their lifestyle and know well to unify means less for them. Additionally the people of N.Korea have been brutiliszed and undernourished for so long it has affected mentally and physically...let alone living under Kim’s personality cult.
The refugies have very difficult time adjusting to modern times and the abundunce in the south. Additionaly the people have little education.....many of the woman who escape end up as prostitutes or in the human trafficking
web.
It would take a International effort of great perportion to even get their country on a level keel to sustain itself. And countries currently have great problems already. It’s just a very sad and difficult situation all around.
