CPAC fissure over gays deepens; GOProud called incompatible

Excerpt:

Deepening a rift ahead of the largest annual gathering of conservative activists in Washington this week, some of the movement’s top leaders have circulated a private memo urging that conservatism’s founding principles be recast to exclude gay rights groups from the Reagan coalition of economic, defense and social conservatives.

The memo, obtained by The Washington Times, was signed by about two dozen leaders, and was released just as the Conservative Political Action Conference is set to begin its most contentious session in years, riven with divisions over a gay rights Republican group that is helping sponsor the conference and the social conservatives who are trying to keep it out

“Gays” are trivial next to the foothold the Muslim Brotherhood (via Suhail Khan) has attained in this ostensibly “conservative” group. Keene is a national disgrace.

hi, STARWISE, how are you? You must be (or I must be) psychadelic. Just posted to onyx to see how you are.

ANYWAY, on top of the GOPride problem, Keene’s former wife who’d been bookkeeper for the organization has been accused of embezzling a couple hundred thousand dollars (IIRC $400K) over a period of years.

Al Cardenas elected to succeed David Keene as ACU head

###

Excerpt:

Veteran conservative movement activist Al Cardenas has been unanimously elected to succeed David Keene as chairman of the American Conservative Union (ACU) on the eve of the organization's biggest event, the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC).

Cardenas, a business executive and attorney who came with his family to America from Cuba in 1960, was an early supporter in Florida of Ronald Reagan's presidential aspirations, serving as co-chairman of Reagan's campaign in that state in 1976 and 1980, then performing a number of services for the chief executive after the 1980 election victory.

My personal opinion is that if you are for limited government, you are for a government that doesn’t get ask what is going on in your bedroom, doesn’t rummage through (or insist that you organize and submit) your banking papers, or in any way influences what occurs in your house of worship, among other limitations.

Cardenas has faced some anonymous criticism from ACU's board that he was not conservative enough to head the organization.

Cardenas is a lobbyist, lawyer and a former head of the Florida GOP -- and his support of Charlie Crist over Marco Rubio in the 2010 Senate race is a sore point with some conservatives.

Crist?! I guess they can now take the name Conservative out of the ACU.

What is the point of the ACU and CPAC if the an embezzling George HW Bush supporter is replaced by by former Crist supporter, at a time when the ACU has Muslim Brotherhood members on its board and lets the anti-conservative GOPround attend?
Clean house, dissolve with a sense of honor, or we will be forced to brand them corrupt traitors.

Jeb Bush has received rousing welcomes at various Republican campaign events, said former Florida Republican Party chairman Al Cardenas, who has traveled with him this year.

“I don’t know anyone who is as well-liked by as many Republicans of influence around the country as Jeb Bush,” said Cardenas.

Cardenas said he did not think negative views of the George W. Bush’s administration would affect Jeb Bush. “The question is whether the polling numbers for his brother are that meaningful with respect to Jeb Bush’s political future,” said Cardenas. “I don’t really see it as that relevant as others do.

“I hope he’s encouraged to run for national office at some point,” he added.

'Nuff said. I would bet he supports an amnesty like Jeb.

I do not believe for one second that a “gay proud” person can also be a Conservative.

I do, however, believe that a “gay proud” person or group of gays can try to sabotage an entire Conservative movement by trying to infiltrate/destroy via political correctness.

CPAC is a joke.

Yes, a group that defines itself by their enthusiasm for sodomy is not a good fit for an organization that defines itself through traditional American values. Mr. Keene is a good example of the type of guy who really would have been a better man had he spent a few years on active duty in the service.
