LOS ANGELES (Reuters) Actress Lindsay Lohan was charged on Wednesday with grand theft over a $2,500 necklace that was allegedly taken from a Los Angeles jewelry store.
Lohan was scheduled to appear in court later on Wednesday for an arraignment on the single felony count.
If convicted, the 24-year-old "Mean Girls" star could be sent to prison just as she struggles to end more than three years of court appearances, failed drug tests and brief spells in jail stemming from a 2007 drunk driving conviction.
Lohan's lawyer has said that the actress denies the allegations and will fight them in court.
Friends have said Lohan believed the necklace, which has been returned to police, was on loan.

IMHO, drug addicts are often confused. I would not be surprised if she thought this was true, but it was a fantasy.
OTOH, I saw her walk away from an accident where she hit and damaged someone’s car. Like Obama, if it’s not important to her, it’s just maybe not that important.
Even at today’s prices, I doubt that there’s more than $80 worth of gold in that thing.
Is the charge based on what it was WORTH, or what price they decided to try to sell it for?
A car on a car lot may be for sale at $2,500.00, but it may only be worth $800.00.
I smell a frame job.
Just know I wasn’t trying to rip you personally, I know your posts and know you’re not a liberal. This just made you sound like one.
I don’t like anyone making decisions based on looks. Lots of horrid beautiful people out there and lots of nice unattractive people out there too. And in general women benefit from this way more than guys do and when it comes to matters of law it’s totally wrong. I don’t care about bars offering a ladies night, I do care about a judicial system that is biased because of looks or gender.
Wow. Not the face of a 24 year old. If the caption under the pic read that she was 39, I would not think twice.
Its easy to make a simple mistake when you are terminally stoned outa yer ghord.

I have known a few people over the years that the 2nd thing they do after waking up is to smoke pot, and to keep it up all day.
None of them are anywhere near Lindsay is. It’s not the drugs. It is her psyche that is broken.
You think that’s a stash in the pouch hanging off her neck?
Even at todays prices, I doubt that theres more than $80 worth of gold in that thing.

Too funny. When you take your car to the shop, and they install a 45 dollar part and charge you 379 dollars for labor, you pay it, don’t you? Why? Maybe because you understand the time and level of expertise that went into the repair?
From the news stories, I’d say the DA has a significant uphill battle to prove intent. With a photo of her wearing it, all she’s likely to get is a receiving stolen property charge - if that.
She’s got plenty of time to screw up - this one’s probably not worth it.
Colonel, USAFR
>> She just doesn’t look like the old prison hag type
Not yet anyway, but with some practice I’m sure she could “grow into the part”. She’s an ACTRESS, you know!
“I’ll give her the benefit of the doubt.”
So woule I on this one. First, that’s the general presumption under US law. Second, loans of this kind happen all the time with celebs, and she was not concealing the fact that she had the thing.
So I would want to know more about the circumstances of the actual TAKING. Did she sneak it into a handbag when nobody was looking, or did she walk out in plain sight? If she thought she had an agreement, with whom and when did she make this agreement?
“...basing your decision on looks and feelings is you being a big wussy liberal.”
Or a normal guy.
Well, unless you're Timmy Geithner, Ben "The Bernank" and all their Bankster pals engaging in massive fraud, perjury & asset-stripping of the American middle class.
In that case, you get a pass....
She'd make a great Treasury Secretary, Chairman of the Federal Reserve, or a vice-president at one of the Too Big To Prosecute Banks...
For those wondering the cutoff between petty theft and grand theft in CA is $950. Since the necklace is valued at $2500, Lindsay is facing a potential 3 year sentence in state prison, in addition to time for probation violation.
I have a hard time taking the American "justice" system seriously after Clinton and this newest Housing Bubble serial fraud by the financial class.
Looks like Lohan understands who she's dealing with - hired guns for The Elite.
Or hear about their funerals.
She should have taken it to Pawn Stars and sold it to Chumley.
She offered to campaign for Obama and was turned down because of her toxic rep.
