No one says "all" companies do this. But clearly a lot do.

GM? GE? Goldman Sachs? Monsanto? ADM? A lot of companies use lobbyists to write legislation and then hand it to the politicians on a silver platter.

Companies that don't play along are taking a risk. Taxes and regulations can cut them down to size at any moment. Companies that help the government achieve its goals stand to win big against their compeititors. Look at ObamaCare and what it does to small insurance companies. The big insurance companies are loving that, because the politicians are eliminating their competition.

It really is economic fascism.

Eisenhower warned about the "Military-Industrial Complex" and everyone assumed that the problem was defense-related. It's really much bigger. It's the corporate world helping politicians gain power, and the politicans helping (some) companies gain wealth.

We are in a bad place, and no one should fool themselves into thinking that this is what Capitalism looks like. We abandoned the free market long ago.

I understand what you are saying but I worked for Ampex, IRC, Tektronix, Intel and others that don’t get that involved. I guess mainly because they didn’t have to. But.....that was some time ago.

Very much agree with your post.

you’ve especially hit a chord with...

“We are surrounded by bad ideas and their toxic consequences. A free marketplace will tend to eliminate bad ideas — or at least it has a chance to — whereas in academia or government, since they are free from market discipline, bad ideas can become entrenched and almost impossible to eliminate, as in the educational establishment, or the state department, or our tax system, or social security.”

I would only add that corporate ‘group think’ also plays a major part w/ acadamia and government. All 3 entities play into the maxim ‘the root of all evil is the love of money’ - they use it to prop each other up and gain more power to force their wishes upon society no matter how twisted and perverted.

With very few exceptions, corporate america [I hesitate to say america here b/c it has been exported globally] accepts the secular humanist ammoral standards. They hint at loving whatever values are intrinsic to a culture while using deception to increase both power and wealth.
