In the shocking video you are about to watch, Howard Dean declares that it is the job of the government to redistribute our wealth. Not only that, he says it in such a way that indicates that he believes that such a notion should be obvious to anyone with half a brain. Well, while it is true that the United States has become a highly socialized nation, the reality is that this is not what the founding fathers intended. The founders intended for us to live in a land where we would have enough freedom and enough liberty to be able to work hard and enjoy life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. They did not intend for a gigantic federal government to take huge amounts of money from one group of people and give it to another group of people. In any nation where a large scale redistribution of wealth is happening, the incentive to work goes right out the window. Pretty soon you end up with an entire class of people that have learned how to "make a living" by being a parasite of the government, and that is not good for any economy.
If our founding fathers were alive today, they would be horrified by what we have turned into. In 1816, Thomas Jefferson wrote the following....
To take from one, because it is thought his own industry and that of his fathers has acquired too much, in order to spare to others, who, or whose fathers, have not exercised equal industry and skill, is to violate arbitrarily the first principle of association, the guarantee to everyone the free exercise of his industry and the fruits acquired by it.
You Tube:Howard Dean It Is The Government's Job To Redistribute

He did make a certain point. If money was spent by the government in proportion to each persons income then like he said “Poor neighborhoods wouldn’t have roads”. That is true, same with schools and other things, so government in effect does redistribute wealth in a way that hopefully lifts all people upward. The problem is the government money is spent on schools that are run be left wing liberals like the NEA and they are failing, and failing the worst in poor neighborhoods. So, while government had good intentions, the liberal left has screwed it up since their beliefs are so wrong.
So, yes, be definition every Goverment dollar redistributes or rather spread wealth, the military protects the rich and the poor alike.
The problem comes when they start thinking the wealthy don’t deserve what they have earned the poor, many of them poor by choice and actions, deserve they money the rich have earned.
That’s how it was for the Soviet Union, how’d that work out for them Howie?
The framers of the Constitution knew people Like the Democrat Party and Howard Dean would come along and that’s why they built that document, as a mechanism to deny them the legal ability to do so.
When liberal say redistribute the wealth they are not talking about building roads and schools which everyone can use — or military defense, which is for the common good. They are talking about taking money out of the pockets of taxpayers and putting in the hands of people who do not work or who do not earn very much. This is SOCIALISM and moving toward COMMUNISM where you NEVER earn more than anyone else unless you are one of the elites.
Every liberal spending program is bankrupt. That says it all.
Building roads is not redistribution of wealth irrespective of where they are built.
Since anyone can use them they are simply public property.
His primary analogy fails, therefore his premise fails.
The reality is that our government has been redistributing wealth for a long time. It already takes money from those who earn it honestly and gives it to those who vote democrat.
The income tax is a giant redistribution scheme. So is social security. Medicare. The death tax.
Up until 2 years ago, the public hadn’t caught on.
How is it “shocking?” Dean, more than any other leftist, has been very clear and open about his stances. For all his numerous faults, I have more respect for Dean than other dems who attempt disguise their socialist leanings with a faux-centrist cloth.
Dean’s a dyed-in-the-wool socialist, but at least he’s never pretended to hide it. You always know where you stand with him.
Amen to that. At least Dean is straightforward about where he stands on issues.
Telling the truth doesn’t work well for Obama. It hurts his head or something. He does it so seldom he is just not used to it.
Classic, NorthEastern limousine liberal...
lbryce, GREAT quote from Jefferson! Sometimes I suspect he was a little more liberal than the rest of the Founding Fathers, but in the more classical definition. I wonder what he'd think of today's democrats? Probably first off, he'd go grab his shooting iron...
Bump!
You gotta remember............the pigs.
All animals are equal but some more equal than others.
'The income tax is a giant redistribution scheme. So is social security. Medicare. The death tax."
One shouldn’t be shocked when the scorpion stings the frog.
What’s so shocking about it? Howard has been saying that pretty consistently throughout his public life.
Good grief, people like Dean actually get elected to high positions. If you think Obama is bad, and he is, Dean would have been just as worse. So according to these mental midgets, without redistributing tax money, there would be few paved roads in the country. How stupid do they think people are? Apparently, as stupid as they are.
What you said. I favor proposing a law that every rich Dem should have to donate at least ten percent of their income to the "poor and oppressed"...because they care so much about them. The combined wealth of all the nation's libs has to be in the trillions. They shouldn't mind giving up a trillion or so.
The “shocking” part is the honesty.
All leftists like socialism, but they never want to admit that they do, or that what they support IS socialism.
They also know that socialism is reprehensible to a free people, so they have to keep their beliefs hidden in order to attain and maintain power.
