Several sources familiar with the ongoing investigation tell WTOP fire and police investigators believe the radiator in Turton's 2008 BMW X5 was punctured when it rolled into a workbench. The halogen headlights, which emit a bluish light and illuminate the road better than conventional headlights, stayed on after the radiator was punctured.

The whole story is ridiculous beyond belief. The public needs to demand an explanation that makes sense.

“I’ve not seen the report of how high the flames were”

Go to the link at post 324 - in the video about 6-7 seconds in - it is an eyewitness report from the neighbor across the street.

"why isn’t the vehicle more damaged?"

The flames burnt through the roof of the garage in front of the vehicle that was partially backed out of the garage. This caused the fire to go up versus out. It was put out so fast (less than 15 minutes) it did not have time to fully incinerate the car.

From the fire videos, it looked like the fire was contained to the front of the vehicle. Hence, no damage to the back.

I have to look back through the previous threads regarding the state of the body. I remember conflicting reports (i.e., no major trauma, body was burnt, Police and Fire could not identify the body at the scene).

I saw this from muawiyah on another thread...

“The burning antifreeze vapor (essentially methane) is a pretty good theory here. What happened is she parked the car when it was hot and went inside.
That's when all the hot antifreeze leaked out and evaporated into the garage and into the automobile's interior. It was everywhere. Then, she came downstairs in the morning to go to the airport. Hopped in the car, put her key in the ignition (or maybe this had one of those chip controlled ignitions that starts up when your “key thing” gets in proximity. So it starts up. She puts it in reverse. As soon as that heating element in the catalytic device kicked up to 711 degrees (what, 20 seconds tops?) everything blew up. She would have been both burned and suffocated simultaneously, and probably knocked unconscious.”

Hmmmmmmmmmmm

They said the radiator was punctured.

I had not thought about the overnight aspect of this. The victim comes home a bit tipsy from celebrating the big merger. Runs into something in the front of the garage and punctures the radiator. She thinks, crap, I'll have it looked at tomorrow. It drips and pools all night with vapors being concentrated in the VERY SMALL one car garage and the water evaporating from the mixture. On the way out in the morning something (headlight? catalytic converter? other?) sets off the concentrated vapors.

If the video I posted a few posts up is real, perhaps it is plausible?

The sequence of events is ~ (1) She returns home night before and pulls car into garage (2) Car hits workbench and radiator is punctured (3) She goes inside house (4) The antifreeze leaks out of the radiator STILL UNDER PRESSURE because the engine is warm (5) The antifreeze sprays on undercarriage, all over the floor, and so forth. (6) The ethylene glycol component maintains its liquid character as the water component evaporates into the air in the garage. Then the water condenses on the outer doors slowly overnight. (7) This leaves a solution of ethylene glycol on everything.

Returning to the main line (8) The car sits there overnight and the ethylene glycol slowly evaporates into the interior of the car (8) She comes down to the car early in the morning to go to the airport. (8) Hops in driver's seat, activates the ignition, broken light comes on ~ Bang, or (8) Hops in driver's seat, activates the ignition, catalytic converter heater tokes up ~ while she's fiddling with seatbelt and purse, checking mirror to make sure it and her lips are still there - Bang.

Doesn't matter if it was a broken light housing or the catalytic converter heater coil that got her!

The question I'm addressing is a simple one ~ how did it happen she had an explosive mixture of ethylene glycol and air in her car and garage ~ and that's how it happened.

It is always a good idea to provide some sort of ventilation to any garage where you park a motor vehicle. Store cans of gasoline OUTSIDE

So you are saying she starts up the car and sits there waiting in a running car with the garage door closed? If so she was an idiot.

Repeating one of my earlier posts the way to separate the ethylene glycol from the water is very simple ~ simply have the antifreeze spray out of the ruputure in the radiator immediately after she parks it in the garage.

Then you'll have a "mist" all over the place. The water then fractionates out first because it's condensation temperature is different than ethylene glycol.

Basically, the water component will condense on the walls of the garage and the cold metal of the car leaving behind an ethylene glycol mist.

Then, in the early morning when she comes down to start the car she has an ethylene glycol "mist" inside her car, in the garage air, and wherever.

I think that gives you the lower ignition temperature you were looking at ~ and there are two possible sources ~ (1) the lights, or (2) the special high efficiency BMW catalytic converter (I believe this is unique in the automotive industry).

“When I look at them all I see is shine.”

Interesting. It seems there are diametrically opposed (love or hate. I don't have the bulbs in either of my vehicles but would love to have them.

If I see a car approaching me with the lamps, I can look directly at them and see perfectly. Of course, I also prefer cool white bulbs in my home fluorescent lights.

The main reason is that incandescent bulbs are no where near the suns spectral range whereas the Hi-I auto lamps appear to mimic the sun nicely.

I heard one lady on Rush say that the lamps caused her all sorts of medical problems. I suspect most were psychosomatic!

The ATF guys suggest she backed out and that forced the doors open.

You'll notice from the photos, however, that it looks more like an explosion opened the doors.

She may well have just hopped in the car to get ready to travel and didn't actually intend to leave yet. Maybe she was taking some trash out. However, once she got into the seat and her purse with the special "turns on your car by remote" key was in the receiving range of the quite elaborate ignition system, the engine turned on anyway!

Don't any of you guys get around to see all the neat stuff the rich people got for their cars?

The solution to the question of lack of burning inside the vehicle YET she was burned. Let's say we have just enough ethylene glycol mist inside the compartment to ignite. It does so explosively. She and her clothing burn. The fire retardant in the upholstery, headers and other combustible materials in the interior works so none of that catches fire in that brief, but intense, explosive combustion.

Oh, yeah, and the explosion creates the evidence of BLUNT FORCE TRAUMA ~ you do get beat up pretty badly when you are "exploded" on by something.

I think my Cheve Tahoe has remote start but I never figured out how to do it. I don't know how to take a picture with my cell phone either. Maybe I am a technaphobe or maybe I am just old. :D

Plausible.

Also plausible is bad reporting a month or so ago, the reporter did not get the facts right. GIGO, Garbage In, Gospel Out for many news outlets.

Burned car, body, so he writes that the body was burned without checking.
