Lupica: Tea Party darling Sarah Palin spouts nonsense with criticism of protesters in Egypt
http://www.nydailynews.com/news/columnists/lupica/index.html ^ | Monday, February 7th 2011 | Mike Lupica

Sarah Palin was on the Rev. Pat Robertson's Christian Broadcasting Network over the weekend, another soft television place for her to land, even better than the one where she swung away at fish like a golfer beating balls at the driving range.

Maybe Palin likes Robertson because she thinks that if he could run for President, which he sure did once, anybody can.

So Palin showed up on CBN to weigh in on Egypt, maybe because she thought all the real news outlets were taken.

And after she got done with questioning the motives of the protesters in Cairo, she started swinging away at the President as if he were another fish flopping around on the deck on "Sarah Palin's Alaska."

But that is Palin: Swing first, ask questions later, then hope for answers that don't make her go straight to Google.

"Now, more than ever," she said, "we need strength and a sound mind there in the White House."

More and more you get the idea that Palin - Michele Bachmann will be President before she will - actually thinks that the sound mind "there in the White House" is supposed to be hers someday.

Of course it is a dangerous and complicated and fluid situation in Egypt, building out from the streets around Tahrir Square. President Hosni Mubarak's government has been staggered in front of the eyes of the world over the past two weeks, even as he continues to hang on like a punched-out fighter. Of course trying to sort out what is happening with the opposition, from one news cycle to the other, is like trying to understand what's on Glenn Beck's chalkboard sometimes.

Now two weeks into this, here comes Palin, who was such a strong leader when she was governor of Alaska that she left the job on the dead run when she saw there was money to be made in the other 49 states, and a way down there to mount a presidential campaign she apparently thinks she could win.

So she doesn't just take swings at President Obama, sounding like somebody who gets all of her political information by listening to the radio. She also questions the motives of the people in the street, the ones whose courage will make Egypt a better place when this is all over, whoever is in charge next month, or next fall.

Palin is a huge star these days, no doubt, and the darling of the right. She has come an amazing distance since John McCain picked her out of the chorus as his running mate. But sometimes you get the idea she starts talking just hoping a good thought will eventually pop into her head.

"We want to be able to trust those who are screaming for democracy there in Egypt," Palin told CBN interviewer David Brody.

Brent Bozell (or somebody like him) needs to break down the ratio of liberal columns about Palin vs. Conservative ones. It seems to me that guys like Lupica are far more obsessed with her than we are. Personally, I agree with George Will (imagine that), who recently suggested that the left is "trying to goad her into running in 2012."

“She also questions the motives of the people in the street, the ones whose courage will make Egypt a better place when this is all over, whoever is in charge next month, or next fall.”

If Little Mike thinks Egypt’s going to be a better place when this is all over, he’s an even bigger idiot than I thought.

A mediocre sports writer writes a hit piece on Sarah. I guess he needs invitations to liberal drunk fests.

Obama just finished handling the Egypt situation as deftly as a brain surgeon wearing oven mits, and this clown is worried about what a private citizen is saying about Egypt to Pat Robertson. Another media stalker.

Another left wing hack sports guy who thinks he is a brilliant political mind. Who in the world wants to emulate the failure Kieth Olbermann? Lupica isn't a real good sports writer either.

Now that we have been freed of hack-sportswriter-turned-political-pundit Keith Olbermann, perhaps hack-sportswriter Mike Lupica wants to upgrade his job description and fill Olbermann’s intellectual void with his own intellectual void.

All there is in the article is a couple of brief lines from Sarah and the rest is some sort of mind reading act and a psychotic tirade.

Naturally there is no way to comment on this screed. Typical liberal cowardice.

I agree. The left is not afraid of Palin. They think she is a joke. The media pays attention to Palin in the same way they do Charlie Sheen, Lady Gaga, and Paris Hilton. It’s all about blog hits, magazine sales, TV ratings, etc. We have a celebrity obsessed culture.

Well, George, she IS running. Don’t know if she is the best candidate, but one thing I know, she is the only one who can stand toe to toe on stage with Obama and skin him alive. That might not sell in todays market but she is tougher than he is. Or you are.

I like it when sports writers step out....

They show how arrogant, condescending and liberal they really are. (Olberman, Gammons, Rick Reilly, etc., etc)

Incidentally, while I accept on principle that every ME government other than Israel is corrupt to some extent, I have yet to see any report from the left or the right detailing Mubarak's crimes (other than financial). I believe that all people are entitled to some form of Jeffersonian Democracy. However, I reject the idea that the protesters in Egypt are the moral equivalent of our own Founding Fathers. For one thing, with few exceptions, such as Hamilton, and Jefferson himself, most of the Fathers were a great deal older, and more educated. Emotional 20-somethings running a country certainly does not seem like a good idea to me. I'm not saying their cause is wrong, I'm just saying that I, and Lupica, and Palin, and President Obama, might want to sit back and gather more information before forming a definite Opinion. To his credit, that seems to be what Obama is doing. He appears to be hedging towards the protesters, but given the common ME bias against the America, I would be doing the same thing. The eventual winner can not be allowed to feel that the US ever opposed their cause. The situation is way out of Lupica’s pay grade. Perhaps Al Gore will start a newspaper to go along with his cable channel that no rational person ever heard of.

That speech was no joke. In one phrase, “Road to Ruin,” she set the tone for taking the fight to Obama. Even if you think of her as merely a cheerleader, she is a damn good one, and bookkeeper types like Paul Ryan need to let their inner Irish out.

Too bad Jason Whitlock didn’t follow through on his urge towards Lupica. I know if I was on the Sports Reporters on Sunday morning I’d have b***h-slapped Lupica long ago.
