FT. LUPTON, Colo. -- She is six weeks pregnant and when she went to the pharmacy to pick up an antibiotic her doctor had prescribed, the pharmacist gave her an abortion drug by mistake.
Mareena Silva might lose her unborn child because of the prescription drug error, which occurred last Thursday.
"I took it because I thought it was mine," Silva said. After she took it, Silva started feeling nauseous.
"I came back and I looked at the bottle and it wasn't my name," she said.
The methotrexate was intended for a 59-year-old woman with the exact same last name as Silva's and a similar first name.
"My doctor immediately told me to try and make myself vomit to see if I could get the medicine to come back up," Silva said.
Silva was then rushed to Platte Valley Medical Center where they gave her charcoal to absorb the drug.
"For all this to happen now is really overwhelming," said Silva. "This is my first child, so it's really difficult to deal with."

That’s a doozy of a mistake.
Walgreens for one seems to be exceedingly careful about this sort of same-name or similar-name mixup — they will ask for confirmation of your address too. Can’t blame them because they’ve gotten slapped hard for past mixups.
Prayers for this precious baby and for this mother, in the Name of Jesus.
Methotrexate is also a cancer treatment. The bottle would most likely have had a big sticker on it “DO NOT TAKE IF PREGNANT.”

It was a chemotherapy drug also used for abortions.
It’s used for cancer and autoimmune disorders, as well.
It works by inhibiting folic acid, which, at six weeks, is the exact time in development that the fetus most needs folic acid.
They poisoned her. Hey, a baby is the same as a tumor, right. That’s what they believe.
What have they done to that child?
Would an antidote be attempted by supplementation with folic acid? I think methotrexate is supposed to compete with folic acid rather than combine with it.
Kill it, maybe
Prayers for the baby. That it will not be aborted, and that it will not be damaged by this horrible mistake.
If anyone did this to a member of my family there wouldn’t be any call for apologies, there wouldn’t even be a lawsuit. I would drag the offenders out of the pharmacy with a bag over the heads, toss them into a big van, lock them in a cold dark cell, and slowly dissolve them alive in a vat of battery acid. That’s only if I feel like being merciful.

I would imagine they gave some form of folic acid in an IV while absorbing the drug with ingested charcoal.
Methotrexate is also a rheumatoid arthritis drug...
