AOL To Buy The Huffington Post

Nathan Olivarez-Giles February 6, 2011

Arianna Huffington is selling the Huffington Post to AOL Inc. for $315 million in cash.

The deal, which Huffington announced on her blog on the Huffington Post website and AOL announced in a news release, will move the co-founder of the news site to the position of president and editor in chief of a new Huffington Post Media Group division at AOL.

The purchase will increase AOL's news portfolio as it competes against Yahoo's growing online news publication profile and Google's news efforts, as well as traditional media companies online.

Additional AOL news websites will fall under Huffington's control as well.

In a statement, AOL said it is buying the Huffington Post with about $300 million from on-hand cash. The purchase has yet to acquire government approvals, but the boards of directors of each company and shareholders of the Huffington Post have approved the transaction, AOL said.

I wonder if AOL will take up the cost of that suit against Huffpo for parasatizing off some web designers? Huffington Post sued for theft of idea for Liberal blog

It would serve them right for associating with such an evil woman.

AOL couldn't make the online news thing successful with the resources of TIME Magazine at their disposable, but they'll make it work with HuffPo?

I guess TIME has no prestige left and HuffPo is the "hip" source now.

I started blocking HuffPo a year or more ago so I'm not "tricked" into visiting it and giving them ad views.

“Arianna Huffington is selling the Huffington Post to AOL Inc. for $315 million in cash.”

About $320 million more than it’s worth.

Didn’t Soros invest in the Huffington Post just a couple months ago?

That would be the same AOL that bought Time Warner in the biggest debacle of the 20th century.

AOL just won’t die. I need AOL to die to make my mint condition collection of 200+ in the wrappers AOL Floppy disks and CD’s valuable collectors items

I always hated AOL, and the Huffing and Puffing Post. I never read either anymore.

I’m going to REALLY not read the hell out of either now.

Don’t understand why major corporations continue to think that the major advantage is on the extreme left!

They know the train has passed them by, so they're hooking up with other leftists to try and stay on track. The Engine That Could no longer can, Conservatives have left them at the station.

First of all, I hope that none of you are still with AOL for your Internet service. They’re absolutely worthless!!!! Just use one of the major broadband services and surf and e-mail on your own. You’re all smart enough to do that without AOL.

Second of all, what is the Huntington Post? It’s a BLOG! Sure it’s the number one rated blog on Technorati, etc., and it has all Arianna’s money behind it. But it’s still a blog, and an unreliable one in terms of information and opinion at that.

Heck, I run a blog—a business/professional blog. It has reliable info and opinion, and is very well respected in its sphere, but it’s sphere is very small compared to the Huffington Post or the Daily Beast. It has no ads—I want it that way. Nevertheless, perhaps I am missing in terms of ways to legitimately make money off that blog, given what is happening with blogs nowadays. We shall see.
