U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., drew prolonged, loud cheers and laughs in her speech Saturday night to a Republican dinner as she praised Rep. Denny Rehberg and tore into Democratic President Barack Obama and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
Bachmann, a leading speaker on the Republican banquet circuit and founder of the House Tea Party Caucus, said the federal debt was a heart-palpitating $8 trillion when Pelosi, a California Democrat, became speaker of the House. It grew to $14 trillion in four years.
There was a reason why we had to take the House of Representatives back, she said of the 2010 election. We had to. We had to. And we did.

Can’t say “Blasts”.
Oh, those wonderful Montanans!
Since numbers are difficult for some people to comprehend, Republicans should show a graphical representation to the public.
If you extrapolated 2003 - 2006, the numbers would be in the black. When Pelosi and Reid took over, their legislation drove them DOWN. When Obama stepped in, he took it to the basement.
I like Michelle, a lot and I’ll certainly vote for her. But I searched for the word “Egypt” in the article - not there.
Michelle or SOMEONE really needs to call Obama out on this policy of turning Egypt into another Iran. I’m am sick of this ‘unified on foreign policy’ crap. If Obama’s wrecking this country’s allies, than it’s time to SPEAK UP.
So what’s her plan for balancing the budget?
First thing to do is common sense, you don’t need Michele Bachmann to tell you what it is, my 9 year old daughter knows; stop spending and spending and spending.
Slow the growth of the federal government.
Repeal ObamaCare. It will will save taxpayers money.
Stop cap and trade. Put an end to subsidizing “smart energy” initiatives. Let the private sector figure this out and have it invest in that which they believe to be a winning formula for renewable energy resources. Don’t use my money.
Stop manipulation of the free market.
If the only thing the government did was pay for SS, Medicare, Defense and made minimum payments on the debt, it would cost about $2.9T. Our revenue is expected to bring $2.4T.
(millions)
Department of Defense-Military $723,703
Department of Health and Human Services $926,236
Interest on Treasury Debt Securities (Gross) $464,706
Social Security Administration $789,034
Here are my suggested cuts.
Nothing against Michelle, I think she says some great stuff, but she's going to have to be a lot more serious to be taken seriously.
Ya’ know, after telling yer fellow FReeps that they are offering “cannards” ~ akin to calling someone a liar ~ what do you think is the likelihood that they will actually take the time to even peruse your suggestions or actually take them seriously?
Cease, cut back, slow, block, stop federal spending,...whatever.
Take your pick on the wording and I’ll support any of them.
You’re right. In addition to spelling “canard” wrong, I find that one of the definitions is “false”. Oops.
How about “cut spending with a chain saw”?
With respect to Michelle’s statements, “we” don’t need to win the Senate nor get rid of Obama to balance the budget. Or in her words “if the president is re-elected by the end of his term, the United States will be $20 trillion in debt.” “We” *need* Michelle and her fellow House Republicans to refuse to vote for any budget item that isn’t a part of a balanced budget. I’m tired of them trying to shift the focus from themselves. It won’t only be Obama’s fault if the Debt gets to $20 trillion. It will be their fault.
We are in agreement.
