The White House is now openly pushing for replacing Egypt President Hosni Mubarak with a temporary caretaker government that includes the military and is applauding a decision by Mubaraks son to step down as head of the countrys ruling party.
But a senior administration official said those steps werent enough - and suggested that Mubarak needs to take additional steps to quell the chaos in the streets of Cairo, which is threatening to sink Egypts already foundering economy.
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, speaking to a conference of allies in Munich, Germany, on Saturday, expressed support for a transition effort led by the countrys vice president, Gen. Omar Suleiman - and said it was vital for Suleiman to reach out to all opposition groups, including the banned Muslim Brotherhood.
There are certain things that have to be done in order to prepare for open elections, Clinton told European leaders.
And in another signal that the administration sees Suleiman as key to resolving the crisis, the White House said Vice President Biden spoke with Suleiman on Saturday about progress in beginning credible, inclusive negotiations for Egypts transition to a democratic government to address the aspirations of the Egyptian people.

Let me restate my position. I said that Obama fancies himself as the Mahdi. My position is that he may or not be correct.
Your position, if I understand correctly is that NO he does not fancy himself as the Mahdi and NO he cannot be the Mahdi.
I don't think I need to remind you how difficult it is to prove a negative and how little room there is for error when one takes that position.
I agree with all but your absolute conclusion that he is not the Mahdi. Only time will tell.
It is dangerous to believe Satan is going to make it easy for those who oppose him to be absolutely certain about the identification of his standard bearer or his End Times strategy. He is a very wily opponent...actually, the wiliest.
Keep an open mind...and watch carefully (I'm sure you do).
I suspect being negative would depend on which side of the discussion one may be.
My position is certainy that BO does not consider himself the Mahdi...though it has been said the twisted minds of the Islamic community attempted to state so....heck even many braintwisted Americans saw him as “the one” from their perspective. But Prophetically Bo does not fit the picture...regardless of the Islamic perspective, who are far more in error than most who study this.
The Iranian leadership believes they will usher in the 12th Umah...better to study them than Islamic scholars in respect to our world events today. They do not see their “one” coming from the USA by any means and would never acknowledge this as so.
Further there is lots of room for error in determining a “the one” from any nations take on that. They’ve all been saying one or another is the one for centuries and that’s not going to change....it’s a useful tool for Islamic scholars and leaders to retain their power and control of the mindset of the Islamic believing nations...just goes with the program of presenting to the world a “counterfeit” Messiah...of which the enemy of God always has his counterfeit, and as much a public easily deceived by every wind of doctrine.
Further the Christian community is looking for Christ’s return...”in the air”....so if any believes otherwise, of any “one’s” mans feet on the ground to follow...he’s a fake and an imposter.
On what do you base that? How do you know what he thinks?
And still I ask, what is the source for your “married with children” exclusion?
Yeah, I had read an article on another forum discussing the constitutional issues.
By NO ONE, I meant those in elected office. A couple of talking heads on TV have mentioned it in passing, but have much sway as we do; none. The 0bama administration is actually causing more chaos,or so it appears to me.
1 The burden against Egypt.
Behold, the LORD rides on a swift cloud, And will come into Egypt; The idols of Egypt will totter at His presence, And the heart of Egypt will melt in its midst. 2 I will set Egyptians against Egyptians; Everyone will fight against his brother, And everyone against his neighbor, City against city, kingdom against kingdom. 3 The spirit of Egypt will fail in its midst; I will destroy their counsel, And they will consult the idols and the charmers, The mediums and the sorcerers.
4 And the Egyptians I will give Into the hand of a cruel master, And a fierce king will rule over them, Says the Lord, the LORD of hosts. 5 The waters will fail from the sea, And the river will be wasted and dried up. 6 The rivers will turn foul; The brooks of defense will be emptied and dried up; The reeds and rushes will wither. 7 The papyrus reeds by the River, by the mouth of the River, And everything sown by the River, Will wither, be driven away, and be no more.
8 The fishermen also will mourn; All those will lament who cast hooks into the River, And they will languish who spread nets on the waters. 9 Moreover those who work in fine flax And those who weave fine fabric will be ashamed; 10 And its foundations will be broken. All who make wages will be troubled of soul. 11 Surely the princes of Zoan are fools; Pharaohs wise counselors give foolish counsel. How do you say to Pharaoh, I am the son of the wise, The son of ancient kings?
12 Where are they? Where are your wise men? Let them tell you now, And let them know what the LORD of hosts has purposed against Egypt. 13 The princes of Zoan have become fools; The princes of Noph are deceived; They have also deluded Egypt, Those who are the mainstay of its tribes. 14 The LORD has mingled a perverse spirit in her midst; And they have caused Egypt to err in all her work, As a drunken man staggers in his vomit. 15 Neither will there be any work for Egypt, Which the head or tail, Palm branch or bulrush, may do.
16 In that day Egypt will be like women, and will be afraid and fear because of the waving of the hand of the LORD of hosts, which He waves over it. 17 And the land of Judah will be a terror to Egypt; everyone who makes mention of it will be afraid in himself, because of the counsel of the LORD of hosts which He has determined against it.
